Poll: Confidence in Wood making a good hoops hire
He'll hit a homerun and make a great hire!
He will get a solid, safe hire we will be content with.
He'll make a bland, mediocre hire the will be disappointed with.
Oh hell no, Wood sucks.

Not yet, technically, but the writing is on the wall and we have to be ready.

I assume they use the same firm again, but this time Blaine should be part of the evaluation process. I think the combo gives me more confidence they'll find a solid choice. I DO think it's a good, appealing job with some real positives.

The other part of this search that will be different is Bruce Stewart's involvement. He is in charge of hoops now but wasn't at that time. So he will be a lot more involved this time around.

I believe Bruce has been at ODU for a long time. He has seen the greatest & mediocre. He would be excellent & not swayed by friends. It also would be nice to have BT on the search, since he was head coach for 11 years.

For those of us who grew up in the 60’s/70’s, we all knew as a matter of faith that 4 out of 5 dentists recommend Dentyne over regular chewing gum to prevent tooth decay.

It now appears in a definitive, scientifically conducted survey that 4 out of 5 ODU fans recommend a non-Wood replacement coach over a Wood selection to prevent further program decay.

RE: Thoughts on Wood hiring a coach
Only slightly more seriously, fan excitement is generated in a number of ways. Winning is always the preferred approach, but if that is not in available than the next best option is to sell expectations:

—> “Be a part of the Monarch dynasty of the future, as the Monarchs welcome new MBB Head Coach George Jetson!”

—> “Join the rising Monarchs, as new MBB Head Coach Clark Kent leaps tall buildings to bring us to super heights in the Sun Belt and beyond!”

—> “Don’t miss out on the winning tradition, as we cryogenically defrost Coach John Wooden to lead the MBB program to historic levels!”

And now be honest - - even you, Stat Geek: Is there ANYONE on this board who thinks that Wood Selig is capable of convincing our fan base to embrace high expectations for a successful program in 2024-2025? My dog is that optimistic - - thinking that every time I stand up it means a walk is coming. But after the complete cluster**** that Wood Selig has delivered to us this year, and frankly the preceding 5 years, I don’t know how any ODU fan can believe that he’s the person to be trusted with this decision.

Now I realize that there is MUCH more to ODU athletics than the men’s basketball program, but it is the sole connection that I have to the school. And Wood Selig, from my narrow view, has been an utter failure in this respect.

As soon as John Wooden got a sniff of NIL and the portal, he'd jump right back in the cryo chamber.
