Great night for Texan Nation.
Two basketball wins and a new AD from a P5 school.

RE: WAC MEN’S BASKETBALL WEEK #14
As I recall, somebody posted a possible 0-4 for the Texans.
Well that’s not going to happen as we are currently sitting 2-0 after defeating Seattle at Seattle. This is our first win ever against them.
82-77.
At UTA Thursday.

both Mavs teams picked up wins over SFA yesterday. men went to overtime and won 71-63 and the lady Mavs won 84-74. the Mavs came out fast in overtime for the win. 2393 at the game. not bad for a damp saturday afternoon.

Great showing runamunk, looks like UTA is rolling and at the right time. Tarleton is super tough so you guys are in for a real test. The Texans are also blowing and going. Meanwhile our Wildcats have fallen into territory we have not seen in a long time. For us it is time to cheer for both of you and to get ready for baseball.

Thanks, but there are many here that are. This board is not like a lot of them I've read. Overall, it is pretty respectful.

^Usually...
Speaking of, UTA lost by two with their own refs against the Texans in January. Which UTA team will show? The 9-2 Mavs at home, the 12-12 overall? The team that almost got New Mexico to OT? Or the one that lost to Texas State? And whose refs will be present?

Tarleton has a better record than SFA. Tarleton has beaten SFA twice. And SFA is ranked higher? How valid are these rankings?
KenPom has us second as does the WAC resume seeding system.

KenPom has us second as does the WAC resume seeding system.
NET Factors in lots of different things including: Location of Game and Opponent's NET. Scoring margin doesn't matter in NET like it does in KenPom.
Here is a good article breaking down the differences in the two: https://www.mwcconnection.com/2023/1/12/...m-rankings
In the NET, SFA is 0-1 against Quad 1 opponents and Tarleton is 0-4, SFA is 1-1 against Quad 2 opponents and Tarleton is 1-0. Prior to the Seattle game on Saturday, Tarleton was 0-0 in Quad 2, so that was hurting them in the NET. Tarleton will have another Quad 1 opportunity against Grand Canyon next Thursday.
At the end of the day though, the NET is an NCAA system, and when does the NCAA ever make sense?

The objective of any and all of these systems is to get rank the teams in the correct order. I and the vast majority of basketball fans who follow the WAC, will not be convinced this year’s SFA team is better than Tarleton. Therefore, the NET system is flawed as it does not achieve a correct ranking.

No doubt the ACU fans here are planning to drive down to Edinburg for Thursday's game. It's only 475 miles, the thunderstorms that night are predicted to be not very severe, and if we beat you, you'll get a free meal at Cane's across the street.
If you beat us, it might be too deep a hole to claw back out of. If we're definitely out of the tournament, that boosts your chances considerably.
I'm so depressed I might not even watch it on ESPN+. Probably watch the women's game in Abilene instead.

There's never going to be a system that is perfect. Upsets and the human element make any sport, but especially basketball, hard to rank. Is Northwestern better than Chicago State? Who is better, Kansas or Texas Tech? How do you compare Yale and Gonzaga?
Conversely, some teams just match up against others, even if overall, they are an inferior team. Rivalry plays a factor too. Last year, UTA beat SFA in Nac. No way were the Mavs better as a whole.

I said earlier that I thought Elijah Elliott would steal a game or two. I stand by that statement halfway through February.
Even if they don't, he is a fun player to watch.

Edinburger, we both have droopy, long faces this season. We don't like our record in both men's and women's basketball. We do have some great freshmen and what looks like an even stronger recruiting class coming up (if they don't jump ship before enrolling.) So, I am now looking for baseball and you are also, most likely. But I will still be at the women's game tomorrow night, cheering away. Good or bad, it is a habit. You will be watching one of the games as well, I'll bet.

The Mavs are looking good. Watched them nearly take down the best, most complete team in the WAC (CBU) on the road last week. And they didn’t even need their own refs to do it! Tomorrow night I expect another rough and physical game from the jump, which should favor the Texans. Again.
