Rice vs Louisiana (Game 3)
Ryland looking good, but his middle infield is really letting him down in the 2nd. Two DPs left incomplete by bad throws to first (one by Gallo, one by Royo). But Ryland buckles down and get the 3rd out.

Let’s see what the Owls can get going in the 3rd, as we went down 1-2-3 in each of the first two innings.

Cajun pitcher today is much sharper than the Friday and Saturday starters. Great control and movement.

Giving Manny a rest today, starting the JucCo transfer Aric Anderson at C (batting 9th). Struck out on 4 pitches, with all three strikes looking. Won’t be seeing much playing time doing that.

First 9 Owls down in a row through 3 innings. This guy doesn’t miss much, so hoping for a walk is a losing strategy today.

Lead off double for the Cajuns in the bottom of the 3rd. Long fly ball out to RF moves the Cajun over to 3B, with one out now. Bangs out to talk to Ryland, as his misses in this inning have been way off.

Great block at the plate by the new catcher, Anderson, saves a run

Ground out to 2B brings the run across. Owls down for the first time this weekend, 1-0.

Cajun no-doubter bomb down the RF line. Owls down 2-0, still in the 3rd. Fly out to CF ends the inning. Going to top of the 4th, down 2-0 and with no hits or walks thus far.

Make that 12 in a row. Cajun pitcher now perfect through 4 innings.

Cajuns with another lead off hit, a single, to start the bottom of the 4th. Ryland gets out of it, so still 2-0 going into top of 5th

Gallo with the solid single to break things up! Let’s see if we can get something going

Rank hits a slow grounder to 3B, who makes a great play, but original call on the field is that he’s safe on the tag (off line throw), but now reviewing. Gallo to 2B either way.

UPDATE: Tag was made (great play by the 1B), so Rank is out, but Gallo moved over to 2B

With an Owl in scoring position for the first time today, with only one out, Dukes looks at strike 3. With two outs, Johnson squares around to bunt??? Pulls it back but ends up fouling it off. What are we doing? Johnson strikes out swinging (better than looking, I guess), so heading into bottom of the 5th, down 2-0. Hitting .063 on the day thus far.

In our defense, this pitcher is sharp. Really good control, mixing speed and location, and a buckling breaking pitch.

He had a 6.00 ERA coming in to today's game. And that's one heck of an awful lineup Jose threw out there today in support of Ryland. Again, why is Johnson playing LF and batting #7 in the lineup? He can't hit his way out of a paper bag. All he does is look for walks. And no Manny. I agree with have to rest Manny once a week, but why with a less experienced pitcher, who can use all the defensive catching support he can get.

Ryland gets the lead off K, but a Cajun doubles just over the 1B bag with one out. Ryland gets the next two to get out of the inning. Really a good outing by Ryland today, with one pitch I’m sure he wishes he could get back.

Hopefully our bats can get going, as the Cajuns have a new pitcher in to start the 6th.

Ryland pitching to contact today, but with good control (no walks or HBPs) and very efficient-- just 59 pitches through 5 innings.

Thank heaven we get a new pitcher for ULaLa, a lefty. Is Cummings injured?

Tom Vincent in to pitch the 6th.

Gives up a 1 out double.

Cajuns execute a perfect sacrifice bunt (so THAT’s what that looks like!). Cajun on 3B with 2 outs. Hamilton now in to try to escape the inning.

Nice pitch by Hamilton induces a little tap back to the pitcher to get the Owls out of the inning.

Kyte smokes a double down the LF line to lead off the 7th! Let’s get the bats going!

Becker strikes out on 3 pitches….ouch.

WP moves Kyte to 3B, but Gallo strikes out looking.

Up to Rank now. Would hate to waste a lead off double

And Rank strikes out. Lead off double followed by three straight Ks. Brutal

McDonald leadoff double. No bunting!
Becker struck out on 3 pitches. 03-banghead Strikeout #8. Getting ridiculous.
Gallo struck out looking on 3-2 pitch. Strikeout #9. Stop looking for walks!!!!
Rant struck out #10. 35 Ks for the weekend and we have another 2 innings to go.

We're in desperate need of a hitting coach. Someone who can teach putting the ball in play, especially with runners in scoring position.

Hamilton walks the lead off runner in the 7th, and the next batter. Up on two wheels here…..

Took a break from yard work. Looks like I probably picked a good day to not watch/follow the game.
