Seems this could be a game changer. Could those that want to opt-in be held back by those who don't want to participate? Could this change things for FSU and the ACC relationship?

If a breakaway happens, it likely won’t be driven by football issues. The power schools already control football…there is no need to change football governance.

Maybe a breakaway happens because major schools want to better monetize basketball (in which case, the ACC and B12 are definitely included). This would be an anti-NCAA breakaway.

Maybe a breakaway happens because high revenue schools need to spend more on student-athletes (in which case, revenues will determine who is included). Currently, all the power conferences seemed to be aligned because all the P4 conferences have programs with strong finances. The ACC has a few low revenue outliers, and the B12 has more lower revenue schools.

Maybe a breakaway happens because student-athletes need greater agency. This is where the NCAA is being too slow to change, and continues to lose court cases.

Without breakaway details, it’s all speculative in terms of who gains leverage.

The P2 schools are trying to gain greater control over the playoffs, there also seems to be a build up of shedding the NCAA all together, at least for the money sports. I think a break away will happen, probably in 2 years. If those that want to compete in the break away, would they need to be in one of the P2? If the ACC decides they are all in on it, then does the ACC profit from this? Surely their games are worth more if they are playing a 12 games, all against other break away teams.
