Would the Big East consider a semi-merger with the WCC?

In the world of cable and streaming, markets mean little. It's not like the Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, and Oxford TV markets drive the SEC to $100 million a year in media rights: they are national products.

Dayton is "Big East ready" (great history/tradition, huge fan base, prime Midwest location, name recognition, etc.)

But the BE seemingly is not in expansion mode.

I do think Saint Thomas is worth watching during the next 10 years or so.

Except...conferences want schools that are well represented across all conference sponsored sports. Dayton only sponsors 6 of the 10 Big East sponsored men's sports and 8 of the 12 sponsored for women. (Yes, Creighton also sponsors just six Big East men's sports, but it's not ideal.)

Fair point. I should have been specific and noted "Big East men's basketball ready."

True, but those schools bring the state not just the town. Being the only D1 private school in the region (MN and the Dakotas) and one of 2 in Minnesota should bring benefits for not only the school itself but for the league they belong to.
