2024 Basketball offseason
So the nightmare season is over and we have a new beginning.

Priorities:

1. Hiring a staff. I would imagine that MJ knows who is wants to bring on board as his staff. I would imagine this would be announced sometime next week after he has had conversations with the current staff. I can't see him keeping any of the current staff but wouldn't be surprised if he kept one. Maybe Donahue in his old role. Do we see his old teammate David Harvey, who is a HS coach in Richmond on staff?

3. Re-recruit 2024 class. Sounds like he is actively doing this already. I would assume that he still wants all 3.

4. Hit portal - I would think that we will be looking at a complete roster rebuild. Hopefully MJ can secure those elusive bigs that JJ was always missing out on. My gut tells me that MJ will have players reaching out to him from the portal with an interest to play here.

Anything else you guys can think of?

RE: 2024 Basketball offseason
I would venture to guess the staff is set but it won't be announced for awhile.

Transers- we will start hearing some talk in the next week or 2 when the portal opens.

Our recruits- I expect one to stay and the others to "open up their recruitment"

We need a lot and there are plenty of good players that have connections to MJ. Id imagine first 2 priorities would be an experienced big and an experienced point guard.

I found this interesting. I heard some coaches discuss that the 2 most important positions today are PG(primary ball handler) and PF (4). The general basis is the 4 is asked to do so much and nowadays every coach wants a 4 that can space out the floor but also rebound and defend. Blakney just doesnt defend or shoot well enough to man that spot as a starter, imo. So if it was up to me, I'd put an emphasis on transfer 1, 4 and 5. Try to keep Essien, Jenkins, and Pounds to return. You could probably convince me on Baker or Ceaser but dont have a strong opinion either way.

Probably not a popular opinion, but keeping Donahue on staff for his former role wouldn't be a terrible idea. There's a lot to running a D1 program beyond the X's and O's and having someone experienced that knows the current school and admin would be beneficial to MJ and help him concentrate on recruiting and coaching.

Real possibility of this happening.

I agree on Donahoe. Perhaps even Kovensky for same reasons.
Is Jordan Brooks gone? Isn't he the recruiting stud - won't we need him on stafff to keep this incoming class?
The fact that I don't know this is truly sad and shows how far I have fallen away from the program.
Excited for the future and for caring once again.

Can we not bring back the entire staff? Good lord! For the most part they have failed miserably.

I don't have an opinion either way, but I think I'd lean towards cleaning house and let him start over with his guys.

I thought Donohue all but indicated he was out with Scott Jackson days prior to the announcement of Coach MJ.

No, he’s definitely got a shot to stick, along with Jamal Robinson.

From what I’ve heard, those are the only 2 with a chance to be retained. But things change. It’ll be interesting to watch it unfold.

Id take only one of those two at the most. I dont want any holdover bad stuff poisoning our rebuild. Hope JJ isn't lobbying for these guys and getting in Mike's head. Coach MJ, build your team the way you want it. Youre in charge now and its going to all rest on your shoulders. These guys had their shot. We hired a new coach because they weren't getting it done. Remember that.

Who ever was in charge of developing bigs need to look for a new job. Last night our three bigs scored 3 pts total, all point came from the line, not one bucket. TxSt two bigs had 27 pts. Love killed us in the low post.

LOL = Unfortunately we know thats not happening.

Wood is save now. If we don’t turn the football team into a winner, by the next two years, he would have another problem on his hand. He almost waited too late, on basketball.

Almost???? I think we are all in agreement he wait at least 1 if not 2-3 years too long on JJ to turn it around.
