There is no big separation between 1 G or the other since the P6 days of the AAC, so I'd say line yourselves up regionally, save on travel cost, be the gate keeper for those who are trying to come up from the FCS, create some awesome matchups (Memphis vs BSU) and just be 1 big conference with many divisions.
