New NIL Development
Things are happening so fast with NIL that it’s hard to keep up. There’s now a proposed 8 team men's basketball tournament in Las Vegas around Thanksgiving that would donate $1 million to NIL for each team in the tournament and $2 million to the winner.

You think “great, that helps my school pay NIL.” Yes, if your school is a high profile team that would get selected for this tournament or another that will pay like this. If your team is NCSU or Notre Dame you’re not getting into a tournament that will pay like this.

This is not just limited to holiday tournaments. What about neutral site games? What about home court games, for that matter? What about the ACC tournament?

And I haven’t talked about football. Wouldn’t this concept spread at least to neutral site games, playoff games and bowl games?

I don’t know how the ACC or any other conference will handle this. On the whole, I think the ACC will need to funnel as much money as possible in as equitable a fashion as possible to NIL but every conference will do this.

What I see is the rich getting richer in every way.

The top brands will likely get invited. I'm not opposed to it, perhaps the NIL money they get can trickle down and help other sports?

College basketball's first-ever NIL payout tournament—called 'Players Era'—will be played at MGM Arena in Las Vegas.

Sources tell FOS the tournament organizers are in talks with:
• Alabama
• Duke
• FAU
• Houston
• Kansas
• Oregon
• San Diego State
• St. Joe's
• Syracuse
• Virginia

Here are links to some info on how much you need in NIL to be competitive in NCAA men's basketball. I haven't anything like this for football. I don't know how reliable these numbers are but they look about right to me. I'm pretty sure that the most successful teams are way beyond the 90th percentile.

Do you have to pay extra for players if they already know how to trip opponents?
