JMU MBB - the big dance
Looks like most places are projecting us as an 11 seed this morning. ESPN has us against Washington State and On3 has us vs Texas Tech

RE: JMU MBB - the big dance
Yeah- I'm w/ Dukester. I am not overly worried about our 1st round game. We'll compete well, even as a 12 seed. I believe the spread will support this too. We'll be the trendy pick in bracket pools against the 5 seed. Win that game and we'll likely face the 4 seed (though hopefully a 13 seed).
The possible 2nd round game becomes easier as a 12 seed rather than an 11 or 10. Those seed lines match you with a 3 or 2 seed in the Round of 32. I would prefer to face a team that's closer to ranked 20th in the polls than 10th. It's a nice problem to have though.

Good site that compiles all the bracket projections from different sites (links to each one are at the top). Hasn't been updated yet today:
http://www.bracketmatrix.com/
Right now the potential opponents that are 5 or 6 seeds:
BYU
South Carolina
Clemson
San Diego St
Utah St
Wisconsin
Washington St
Texas Tech

RE: JMU MBB - the big dance
We do not want a 12 as we most likely end up west in that scenario as 3 of 4 12 seeds are in Spokane and SLC. Can’t be in charlotte unless a 10 which is unlikely so an 11 would be Omaha, Brooklyn, or Pittsburgh. There is one 12 spot in Pittsburgh as well.
Where seeds play are set prior to selections so we are kind of locked in. As far as attendance we want Pittsburgh or Brooklyn which generally means an 11 seed. Charlotte would be great but don’t think we get a 10.
My guess is we are an 11 in Brooklyn or Omaha.

My preference is a team without a dominant defensive big man.

Another interesting backstory would be JMU against Clemson.
Byington vs his former assistant coach at UNCW Brad Brownell.
I would thoroughly enjoy seeing JMU against an ACC team.

I think that would be great matchup for us.

if JMU gets seeded #13 due to the weak SOS, then opponents get even juicier.
Auburn
Illinois
Kansas
Alabama
There are still alot of tournaments to be played and teams will move up or down the seeding lines until Sunday, but there are many attractive matchups out there. Like others, I'm just hoping JMU doesn't get paired with another mid-major in the first round. Give the Dukes a chance to knock off a blue blood and capture America's love

Coach By & Wooden just interviewed on CBS national college basketball tv show w/ Kellogg, Coach Wright & Crew. Well done by them both, and more good exposure for JMU.

I would expect Clark Kellogg has a healthy respect for JMU.
1982 NCAA Tournament:
JMU - 55
Ohio St-48

If Howard holds on, JMU moves to 3-0 vs tourney teams since we beat both MAC finalists. Every little bit helps.

RE: JMU MBB - the big dance
Dang, Iowa State leading #1 Houston 54-28 with 8 minutes left in the Big 12 Championship game. Some other interesting scores today that look to shake things up a bit or at least expose some paper tigers.
The really good news is.... watching these two teams play, ranked #1 and #7 in the country, we match up well with both of them. In fact, I think we look better than both of them. Defensively, I think we are clearly better. Offensively, unless we just have a really bad night, enough of our shots will fall to prevail against either team. Both seem to play off the shooter, allowing us good looks beyond the arc. My opinion.

Wow Kent State just blew it with a player not knowing score and fouling up 1 with 4 seconds left. Akron makes both ends of 1 and 1 to win.

Yeah, I felt so bad for that guy. Really brutal. The coach was beside himself (probably because he saw his next job opportunity go up in smoke…)
