Imagine, for a moment, if it was BLM supporters bum rushing the Capitol on Jan 6.

As it was, thousands of violent protestors charged in, trashing offices, attacking cops and smearing poop on the walls, some of them obviously seeking out politicians to assault (or worse), especially Pence and Pelosi.

And yet only 1 crazy Karen was stopped by lethal force. If that mob had a darker skin tone, they would've been met by a shooting gallery.

Imagine if we said that all of the people doing those things should not be arrested or held accountable in any way (and if they were arrested they would be "hostages"), but instead wanted them as our president.

Those protests were for George Floyd getting murdered by a police officer. Not for your MAGA leader fairly losing an election.

Also, MAGA Kyle Rittenhouse driving to another state & murdering 2 protesters with an AR-15 out of "self defense" contributed to those deaths.

Motown, it's despicable you label the murder of a un-armed protesting woman as a "crazy Karen" (her name was Ashli Babbitt by the way) and then attempt to minimize/justify this tragedy, yet in the same breath, you try to shift the conversation to a divisive racial "what if".

You need to look in the mirror and do some soul search as to what kind of world you would like to live and start acting accordingly. Change starts with each of us.

What's tragic was this woman's descent into Trumpism, QAnon, far right ideology, and general conspiracy theories. Her support system failed her, her education failed her, society failed her. That is tragic.

She made the decision to join in the riot at the Capitol, right on the front lines. She broke into the US Capitol building, made her way through, and attempted to climb through a broken window next to the barricaded door of the Speaker's Lobby. Ignoring commands from Capitol Police and Secret Service agents, it seems she got caught up in the moment, thinking she was a hero. And she paid for these mistakes and lack of judgement with her life.

You can call her an unarmed protestor if you want, but there are consequences for rampaging through the US Capitol committing a litany of crimes.

And if you take issue with bringing race into it, there certainly is historic precedent to support Motown's assertion. March, 1965. Selma, Alabama. Nonviolent marchers walking down the road were met by state troopers and deputized white locals. They beat the **** out of the marchers. Innocent people that were simply asking for equal voting rights and protesting recent murders/lynchings of Black Americans. I really can't imagine what would happen if thousands of non-white people had stormed the Capitol, assaulting police officers and chanting for the death of sitting politicians. I suspect it would have been a bloodbath.

I don't have anything to add to Colin's post, he summed it up pretty well.

As for the last part, don't worry about me, I'm at peace with my outlook.

If someone supports a party/ideology that espouses a lack of empathy, 'F your feelings', winning is everything, don't apologize if you're wrong, don't admit defeat when you lose, peddles the most abhorrent conspiracy theories, uses language straight out of Mein Kampf to describe migrants... I would strongly suggest that person "look in the mirror and do some soul searching."

Conservatives call this a "murder," the rioters as "tourists taking selfies," and those arrested as "hostages."

I'll admit calling Babbitt a Crazy Karen was a little flippant on my part, regardless of circumstances. But it's sad - and certainly disturbing - that little else about what happened that day offends them.
