3rd flight of Spacex's Starship is imminent
The most powerful rocket ever conceived is set for its 3rd launch on Thursday if the FAA and weather comply.

Road closures and maritime alerts have been sent out starting for tomorrow through next week. They are still waiting for the launch license, but this usually gets dropped on them at the last second, so is not unusual. This license should grant them up to 9 additional flights without having to go back to the FAA, as long as no portion of the system explodes.

The weather is questionable. Also, the timeframe for closing highway and maritime routes are different for the weekends, so if the weather doesnt cooperate for Thursday or Friday, the launch may get pushed into Monday.

Starship is very likely to make orbit on this test. If it does, subsequent test launches will likely also launch Starlink V2 satellites, which will make each subsequent starship test launch profitable. On this trip, starship will deorbit and land in the Indian ocean.

The booster will fly back to with 20miles of the launch site and land in the ocean. Spacex will then open vents in the tanks to flood them and sink the booster. If that doesnt work, they will go old school and a redneck on a boat will shoot holes in the booster tanks with a rifle at the booster to get the tanks to flood.

Besides getting to orbit, the main objectives is for nothing to blow up, an in orbit fuel transfer test for Nasa, and a check of the thermal tile system for starship to ensure it reenters with no damage.

Spacex has a livestream set to start at 7:30am eastern on Thursday.

Launch license has been granted. Launch window set between 7am and 9:30am central.

The weather for tomorrow is hit or miss, but Friday looks really good.

They have a video up of the re-entry. The plasma can be seen starting at about 3:18.

There's no doubt Elon Musk will be in the history books 100 years from now and the only fact that remains is where he will be listed. Will he be another Nikola Tesla that doesn't get the credit he deserves or will he be a Thomas Edison?

I personally believe Musk will be known as the most important inventor of all time and in the next 50 years what he's working on today will lead to inventions my mind would never dream of. There's no doubt Musk will be the father of the EV and at some point that will play a more important part of the world. SpaceX will take him to that next level and I believe will put him up there with Thomas Edison and could even pass him as the greatest inventor of all time. Or at least the father that lead to those inventions.

I find it interesting how excited one can get from another subsidized T&E session ... at least it's 'privatized' at this point...

there's more going on than anyone fully understands....

sorry Guns, I'm nowhere in the ballpark with ya on this guy....

if Tesla would've had capital investment from the highest levels of influence (like Edison's) .... yeah, this world 'might' be quite different today .... however, it wouldn't be due to the 'benevolence' of such ... I'll leave the rest up for the board to decipher....

So, when we going to the moon to see how much degradation has taken place to the items left there 50 frickin years ago? Seems like an important thing to do. We could be storing pshit there for eternity.

space junk ... it's all the rage in rarity these days...

however, it's plausible that'll be akin to dutch tulips or the lincoln penny one day...

I'm a science geek....

and for the life of me, I have zero clue what's happening with this other than subsidized feeds subsidized....

our species can barely stay afloat in its current economic statis, and Musk gives us redundant shitemobiles w/o infrastructure/thermodynamics and liftoff to wtfe....

some of y'all would really suck at my parties...

@checkHurtFweewingsAtDoor

--------------------

in all seriousness, whoever wins the space race, will control the world........

that's all this c0ck un-swaddling is all about...

but stay li'l jack'd and horny, bubbies (forgot how good this song was from NB and the boys)

What no one talks about is the fact that ALL of these liftoffs have issues. But we used to go to the moon over 50 years ago with no probs. Have we gotten dumber and somehow lost that technology? We have obviously devolved with regard to "space travel".

Apollo 1 and Apollo 13 disagree with your "no probs" assessment. I believe after we have been to the moon and found it basically useless with current technology the budget and stomach to get there has gone away. I saw an interview not to long ago with one of the former Apollo flight directors and he broke it down as no one can fathom how insanely difficult it is to send a manned aircraft to the moon and bring the people back alive. Even the Apollo 11 mission was almost a disaster when they missed their landing zone completely and Armstrong had to manually fly the lander out of a boulder field.
