Midnight Mass Netflix series
Anyone see this?
Its one of the most brilliantly written horror shows I have ever seen. Its breathtaking stuff. I don't think its actually written by Stephen King but you would swear it was watching it.
Its 7 one hour episodes of pure brilliance.
It dives deep on something I have talked about for years, how Hollywood and peoples obsession with vampires is actually quite demonic. The drinking of blood is one of the most terrible sins of all in the Bible and a horrific blasphemy. As God tells us countless times in the OT law "the LIFE is in the blood, you will NOT drink it you will pour it out on the ground."
And this is where Protestants and Catholics have a major disagreement. The wine and bread does NOT become the actual literal physical blood and body of Jesus, that is a horrific blasphemy in the Bible. Communion is a SYMBOLIC act, not literal. Even at the last supper the Apostles were NOT eating and drinking Christs literal blood, it was wine and bread and a symbolic act signalling the New Covenant of His shed blood for our sins.
The way this show dives into this is just brilliant and captivating. I had to binge the whole thing, I could not stop until I had finished it.
It falls under the vampire genre but the show illustrates its really a fallen Angel corrupting this church into a terrible blasphemy against God and the New Covenant.
There are lengthy discussions over faith, suffering and why those things exist, some incredibly genuine grace messages in the early parts and some wonderfully genuine examples of true forgiveness in a Christ like manner. Things about Christians you just never see in secular movies and shows. But it also includes the things you do see in secular portrayals such as hypocrisy, corruption and other tropes.
Its just brilliantly written and such a fresh new take on an old horror genre.

As an Episcopalian/Anglican, we were always taught the via media between Rome and Protestantism, that the bread and wine did not become the body and blood of Jesus, but were the symbolic representation of his body and blood.

On your advice, the wife and I watched the first two episodes last night and we really liked it! We plan on watching a couple more episodes tonight.

Finished the series. Really enjoyed it. I called the ending much to the amazement of my wife.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

On this Eric and I agree. I watched this when it first came out in 2021. It's incredibly captivating.
I thought Hamish Linklater, who played Father Hill, deserved an Emmy for his incredible performance but sadly he wasn't even nominated.

I thought he did an incredible job as well. Stunning that he was not even nominated, what a shafting.
I was convinced this must have been a Stephen King novel as I was watching it (turns out its not), it felt so much like his stuff and that classic slow burn/heavy dialogue and character driven staple of Kings stories and the slow build to the climatic final few episodes is just incredible.
