Job opening at UAF?
Folks have been suggesting, at least, on Hogville that Mussellman wants out. The few fans that would like him to leave point out that he has been under .500, in the SEC, 3 of his 5 seasons; 8-10 last year, 6-12 this year. Of course, few remember that or really care, because he has two Elite 8's and one Sweet 16 since he got there. While there is obviously some "luck" involved in advancing in the NCAA tournament I do think he is a good coach. But, it is nice to be in a conference where you can go to the NCAA tournament even when you finish below .500. While I am sure he will have options, if he wants to leave, he is not quite as "hot" a name as he was last year.

RE: Job opening at UAF?
Louisville newspapers list Mussellman as a decent possibility since he has a low buyout. Doubt he is at the top of their list, but they get down to him.

RE: Job opening at UAF?
Jeff Goodman said that Louisville would not hire a coach with "baggage" and thus he ruled out Beard, Mussellman, and Will Wade. Beard and Wade's indiscretions are well-known. No idea what Mussellman's baggage might be. Louisville is supposedly trying to lure Scott Drew, from Baylor, with a huge offer. Not sure they will be successful. Dusty May, from FAU, seems more likely although Ohio State may be trying to get him as well.

Rumors have Louisville close to doubling the 4.5 million Drew is making at Baylor. Would that entice him to leave? Is the salary just a pride thing? Is making 8 or 9 million really going to change your lifestyle compared to 4.5 million? I can't imagine it would, but obviously I wouldn't know either.

Depends on what you want to do with the money. If I have a chance to double my salary I am gone.

I guess I'm weird, but if I'm happy and love the place I live, more money wouldn't make me leave.

When you got to that level, the money issue is actually a pride issue.

Looks like Louisville really wants Dusty May now, but Mussellman could be up next. I actually now see SMU as a bigger threat to those who fear losing Muss.

That's interesting. I would figure those guys would "snicker" at the idea that Muss would leave a "top 10 program" like the pigs for SMU. ACC, unlimited financial resources, and a huge recruiting area I would be worried if I were them.

Muss now wants the USC job. He is not on the top of their list, but Bryan Dutcher is not leaving San Diego State and Jay Wright is not leaving his ESPN gig. May be interesting to watch.

Louisville and SMU backed off Muss because of "personality" issues. Apparently, he is not the easiest guy to get along with. He does win, however. How bad does USC want to win?

RE: Job opening at UAF?
Apparently, there is bad blood between the AD and Musselman. Some now saying Musselman is a "cancer" in the athletic department. No one said this when he was going to 2 Elite Eights and a Sweet 16. Winning cures all ills (Saw it this year in LR). Muss supposedly wants out, but leaks about his temperament make it harder for him to find a landing spot. Not sure how this ends. Is there an athletic department in the country that has more "drama" than UAF? Hard to imagine that there is.

Appears to be a formality. Arkansas fans think Beard is coming. That would be sickening

If they take Darrell, I wouldn't mind. Beard won't coach for them.

Hope you are right on that. I remember when it was first rumored that Bobby Petrino would leave the Atlanta Falcons to coach at Arkansas. Thought that was a joke. It wasn't.

Hard to imagine he would screw Ole Miss, after one year, after they threw him a lifeline. But, he did leave UNLV after being there a week or so.

Even some non-Arkansas folks are now saying they think Beard would take the Arkansas job if offered.
