Yeah, decent run stopper in the 3 man front. I would assume one of two things:

He didn't fit as well in a 4 man front

A school came calling with some NIL money

NIL is the driver here. But he didn’t have a discussion with the collective before jumping in, which is a bad way to get more money.

Guys change their mind and return sometimes. In a situation like this would/could the collective reach out to him and say "hey, lets see if we can work something out"?

I need to preface this with I don’t know the football staff’s stance on Satchell. The collective will definitely negotiate if that’s what the staff wants. But it’s up to the staff. If they don’t welcome a player back, negotiating with them is a waste of everyone’s time.

Looks like Obie Sanni will be one of the next names to jump in the portal. He’s no longer listed on the roster.

Awww. I ran into his personal coach a couple of times while staying at Spring Hill. I enjoyed the conversation and analysis.
After the Spring game, not a huge surprise, though.

Unfortunately another writing on the wall. I thought he was going to be really good.

CFB Transfer Portal
I was just thinking the other day, I wish we could find the next Ray Lawry. Players like him elevate the play of everyone else on the team.

Yep. He was on a different level compared to others. Amazing talent.

Satchell has been offered by Michigan State.

ODU needs to hire a general manager to manage things between our collective and roster.

Question: If a player enters the portal, commits to another school, then backs out of the commitment before signing, does he remain in the portal or not?

Looks like Billy Wiles committed to AP State. Was hoping we could land him.

I wish I felt more optimistic about our team. Maybe it’s just been too long since a winning season, but it’s hard for me to see us taking a big step forward while losing so many of our best guys. I really want to trust RR and staff, but I’m a bit nervous. Hopefully I’m just paranoid and we’ll progress even more This year. So many unknowns.

I would have liked to see it too, but did we even try to land him?

How is losing our 4th string running back making you depressed?

But, but Monarx! You are supposed to be optimistic despite all of the transfer turnover from 2023 to 2024. You are supposed to trust RR and his staff and not be nervous about the process! You are not allowed to question the unknowns of this team, otherwise you will receive the collective msg board scorn.

In all seriousness, Monarx is a fantastic poster on here and we are so glad to have them. 04-cheers

It’s not even just that. It’s losing the guys that I’ve grown to like and actually follow. He had great potential and I think he was a good player no matter where he was on the depth chart. Obi had talent. I miss the days of watching guys grow and develop and being there for the payoff in their junior and senior years. You can’t just keep losing upperclassmen and replacing them with freshmen either. Size and experience matter. Hopefully we get someone as good or better. And maybe I’ll know their name by the end of the season.

RE: CFB Transfer Portal
I agree Monarx. I used to randomly pick 1-2 freshmen and try to follow their development as close as possible. The feeling of continuity was nice and I felt an increased sense of connection to the players and team. Seems those days are gone.

Change is usually hard and in this case ( unlimited transfer portal, NIL) I can't see how this can possibly be for the better.

3 new names now removed from the roster; Sayyid Stevens, Caleb Gosney and Nicholas Malley. Stevens had exhausted his eligibility so it wouldn’t take much for one to assume he likely had an injury redshirt waiver denial.

Hate to agree with RallyFox, but all I see are names leaving; be nice to see someone coming in for a change. I understand the pessimism, though I am of a different mindset.
