RE: Teams You Pull For Besides Your Favorite
I’m a Jacksonville State alumni so I’m 100% in on them

But

1) Penn State I lived in Pennsylvania for almost ten years now hard not to be a fan living here

2) Shepherd University Rams it’s D2 but I did my freshman year in Shepherdstown and don’t live to far away now

3) Virginia I grew up in Virginia and would watch their games as a kid

4) William and Mary grew up about 15 minutes from campus and lived in Williamsburg after college

5) James Madison basically half my family are alumni

If any of these teams play Jax State I’m 100% a Gamecock. Only time I remember this happening though was against Penn State at basketball

1) PSU
1b) Nova BB (BB isn't exactly PSU's strongpoint... lol)

2) Pitt/Temple/Penn BB (used to like listening to Dick Groat provide commentary on Pitt's radio broadcasts)

3) WVU/Pitt FB (unless they're playing PSU, I'd rather the local FBS schools do well)

RE: Teams You Pull For Besides Your Favorite
I pull for North Texas over all other programs. I'm still the only member of my family to earn a college degree (bachelor's and master's), and the fellowship UNT awarded me is a major reason why. I could have gone to other universities, but UNT was my first choice.

Aside for North Texas I also pull for....

Rice- brother's school
TCU- They commissioned me to make a sculpture for their campus.
William & Mary- The only school outside of Texas I considered attending.
The other AAC programs, when they aren't playing UNT or Rice
Other old SWC schools, except for Texas A&M, Texas, & SMU.
The C-USA teams we were with from 2013 until joining the AAC (LA Tech, UTEP, Middle Tennessee, WKU, & FIU).
Despite what some may believe, I still have a soft spot for a couple of the former Sun Belt programs we were with (Arkansas State, & ULM).

Of course, there are also programs that I only wish bad things upon..... Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Southern Cal, Notre Dame (Bring back Touchdown Jesus), Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, & Oregon.

Within the SEC I root for anyone who is playing Alabama. For Conference games my family has been a proud member of W.H.A.L.E. for 60 years. (We Hope Alabama Loses Every-time!)

Out of Conference I root for every SEC school.

In Big 10 games I root for anyone playing Michigan. I'm partial to Michigan State and Ohio State.

In the ACC I root for anyone not named Clemson and Florida State.

In the Big 12 I don't care anymore.

In the PAC 12 I never cared.

That sums up college sports rooting for me.

UConn. Never a Duke fan so them taking the 99 title was fun. After that they’re really to only program in my lifetime that became a blue blood. Maybe after the first one they were still looked at as “new rich” but 5 titles in 25 years and 3 coaches is undeniable. Plus I felt bad for them getting the shaft last round of realignment, really looked like they’d been relegated.

Texas-UT alum
Kentucky-spent elementary years in Lexington, Mother worked there, sister attended. First college sporting event was a UK-LSU baseball game back in the 60s.
Georgia-wife is 3rd generation Bulldawg

Next tier:
Miami (the better one-in Ohio)-sister is alum
Rice-basically neighbors with Rice U for many years. Only school besides UT I even considered attending. And who doesn't like the MOB (except Aggies-they have no sense of humor)!

Next Tier:
Auburn-son attends
Kennesaw-daughter attended
Houston-Did audit a course couldn't fit in at UT after graduation there, sister is alum, lots of friends and relatives (lots of UT and UH relatives-one "black sheep" cousin and his son went to A&M!)

Also:
Indiana-lived in Indiana
Other Kentucky and Texas schools (other than SMU and A&M)

First off, I'm a Rice guy. Full stop.

We became a Notre Dame family when my daughter went there. They're our second team.

I root for Sam Houston next. About a dozen of my family went there. Lots of teachers here.

My brother and his wife were among the first few four year grads of UTSA. So I'll watch them occasionally.

Wife went to Houston. I'll really only root for them in basketball. I was a kid in the Elvin Hayes era and in college during Phi Slamma Jamma.

I'll generally root for private schools over publics.

I'll usually root for 'G' schools over 'P' schools. I hate this bifurcation.

For no known reason I root for Navy in the Army/Navy game. In spite of my dad having served in the Army.

I was very upset when CFB added overtime. I always rooted for ties in the Texas/aTm game so they would both be disappointed.

1. TXST- Alma Mater. My mom also went here in the 80s so I grew up listening to her talk about their nattys.

2. All SBC schools OOC

3. UMHB- Local school, I'd really love to see them move up to D1. They already have better facilities than a lot of D1 schools.

4. Baylor- also kind of local. Grew up pitying them since they were so bad pre RG3 so I've always had a soft spot for them.

5. Angelo St- one of my best friends played football there

Not schools I "pull for" but schools I watch with interest:

A&M- I don't like them but a kid I know is currently kicking ass for them right now. Super proud of him.

Tarleton - multiple cousins of mine and my gf went here. Ive spent quite a bit of time in Stephenville. Their transition has been very interesting to follow. Actually got to see us play them in baseball a few weeks ago. That was fun.

1. I root for the University of Montevallo in every year sport they play in. I graduated from there, and I still love the campus!! Since it has no football team, I feel I understand a little where the Big East and Atlantic 10 schools come from. Key word "a little."

1a. UGA aka The University of Georgia- my aunt became a fan of the school when she lived in Georgia, and I remember watching Dawg games with her as a kid. If my username isn't a dead giveaway as to who my team is, I can't help you. The "NBama" part refers to the state I live in as opposed to pulling for 'Bama, btw.

2. Troy University- I actually took some classes at Troy and went to a football game there.

3. U of O aka Oregon- a lot of my family are Duck fans.
3a. Oregon State- One of my cousins is an OSU alumna and I have other cousins who pull for the Beavers.

4. I will pull for Auburn in every game except for when they play UGA or the rare occasion they actually play Oregon.

I do like to see Samford and Vandy do well.

Outside of U of O, I could care a less about the B1G. ACC, I kinda like FSU, Clemson, and Virginia Tech. I do like Coach Larranaga of the Miami Hurricanes also.
I had strongly considered going to Pensacola Christian College before, so I follow them some as well.

Hmmm - schools other than my own - OK, but my own includes three schools: undergrad, Master's program, PhD program.

1-2-3) Cincinnati - I lived there for a while. Loved the city. Loved the college sports and especially the Cincinnati-Xavier-Dayton rivalries. I have to say, I root for all three of them when they aren't playing each other.

2) Central Michigan - when I moved to Michigan, I sampled each local college FB atmosphere/stadium/student body/alumni and found I preferred CMU to the others (with Michigan State a close second). I love the fact that I can see CMU at home or at away games at WMU, EMU, Toledo or BGSU and still be home for other things on the same day. I really enjoy Toledo games as well.

3) In games between two random non-local teams - if I have no other preferences, I tend to root for land grant colleges (over non-land grant colleges) or Catholic schools over public ones.

4) I root for any school playing Alabama in football or OhioU in anything. I'm against Alabama football because no one should win that much and against OhioU because their poster (under 50 different names) is....well, you know if you've ever had the displeasure. Either it's one poster under multiple names - or the school has a required class in "how to get people to dislike you and everything you represent - including your college". I think he majored in that course.

On this theme ...

... I've noticed that people who strongly root for one school often (though not always) will list a significant number of other schools as the "enemies."

Conversely, people who cheer for multiple schools often (though, again, not always) strongly dislike no more than one or two other schools (if any).

In short, that's the academic assessment of esteemed sociology professor Dr. Bill Dazzle (with a tip of the hat to Dr. Harry Edwards).

After Rutgers:

NJIT - bunch of friends went there, so spent a lot of time there
Temple - because it is another perpetual underdog
URI - older boy goes there
Drexel - younger boy goes there
Any NJ school not playing against Rutgers

Just a little bit of USF, FAU and FAMU.

USF - I got to see their football program grow up in real time, starting from working out of a mobile home. I'm always impressed how many times I see USF credited when watching an educational program with an archaeologist or marine biologist from USF.

FAU - I'm just impressed how serious they are about their athletics, another fast riser out of Florida.

FAMU - home town team, many friends and acquaintances have went to FAMU or are fans.

Ohio St is my natural rooting interest. I grew up in central Ohio in a family of Buckeye fans and alums and then I married one.

I generally pull for all the other schools in the state. My best friend from college was avid Bearcat fan while another is a Xavier alumna. I think I have a connection via friends or family to just about all the Ohio MAC schools and pull for them against the rest of the MAC.

Outside of Ohio, I have a soft spot for the 2005-2012 Big East football teams and admire their efforts to soldier on.

I don’t really follow Liberty, but I am happy to see when they do well.

I was a FSU fan growing up. Pre Bobby Bowden, once I became a UCF fan I really lost interest in them. There is only one program in college athletics and that is UCF.

Virginia and Penn - alma maters

1) ACC versus any out of conference opponent; in-conference competition is more complex…
a) Duke - wife and daughter are alumnus
b) some family or friends connections to most of the rest of the schools
c) ABC…anyone but Carolina
2) JMU - spent two years in Harrisonburg
3) Big 5 basketball - live in Philadelphia area
