Not saying he isn't a good player but how bad is Hampton to have given Mitchell two-thirds of all his career INTs in one game? Hampton stares down his receivers.

Hampton does stare down his receivers. But that’s mostly an inexperience trait. Remember, he has less than half a seasons worth of game time. But he will have to improve on his progressions and also pocket awareness. But that feels like a broken record for every new starting QB.

I know everyone thinks he's inexperienced but he has been in this program for 4 years now. Jordan Lynch was inexperienced and he came in and took over just fine after 2 years (or was it 3 years in the program when he took over after Harnish?) with less experience. How often do we watch another school's inexperienced QB throw for 200-300 yards against us in one of their first games? A couple years ago we watched Vanderbilt's true freshman AJ Swann in his first start throw 250 and 4 TDs and look way better than Hampton. I feel like WMU always trots out some new freshman who destroys us. Somehow everyone else seems to have inexperienced QBs who still play better than NIU's.

Good point. A more Experienced QB doesn’t look to his side. It was probably just the first read and Hampton was on auto pilot.

This is a great point. An experienced QB would learn something from some of those plays.

There is definitely a point where inexperience just becomes an excuse. And that’s why I’m on my last attempt with Hampton. But I also believe that game reps can’t be simulated in practice. And you have to compare same situations…mostly starter vs back up. When lynch took over he was the starter. Hampton has always been the back up. And other young QBs have had good games vs NIU….and some of the meet the bed in their next start. It comes with inexperience.

I’m not saying Hampton is going to be great, but I’m going to give him at least a few starts to finally put it together or get out of the way for Macon.

I hope someone really takes the QB throne before the season and is a clear #1. Wishing Labas came to NIU, be interesting to see his career at CMU.

RE: Spring Practice
Just kind of looking at Stats and past games you can see highlights of…I think Macon appears to be the more Hammock style choice. He’s a lot safer with the ball and, from the couple of games I was able to see some film of, he had a horrible OLine.

I guess if I had to say today based on that info who Hammock is going to pick it’s going to be Macon. He’s safer. And honestly it’s not like he’s a safe pick who can’t do anything - he throws a nice ball.

I am intrigued by this. Having him play in the middle as a stopper and a guy to tackle the back could be really helpful. If he’s a solid tackler we haven’t had a guy like that in the middle for a bit.

I hope our offense is less predictable. Teams know what we are running BEFORE our players. Have to have awareness of tendencies.

Hope the offense is not a replay of the 2023 season: run twice into a stacked box, throw and incompletion, punt. Rinse. Repeat.

I do not predict a change this year. What you have described is Hammock’s game plan, and it’s written in stone. He hates long passes because of the risk. It’s the easiest offense to defend. And, don’t forget….if the Huskies have a lead, that’s when it gets even more conservative.

Let's just start Justin and run the Navy/Army offense. Fugg it.

I’d love to see handoffs to Justin, who then passes 50% of the time rather than run it 100% of the time. His runs were not hard to figure out last year.

If the Qb doesn't give away the ball so easily we win 2 more games. The 21' offense had many deep balls to Rudolph. Hoping Hampton , who does have a strong arm, doesn't throw away some games with silly errors. Hell, he may not even be the starter.

I think we all forgot about the OC change mid season. Give the guy a full off season and let’s see how it goes.

Anyone been out to practice yet this spring? We used to have some people on here close to the program that gave great insight on position battles.

Yea at a certain point it goes beyond "playing not to lose" and becomes "playing not to win". A 1-TD lead in the first quarter becomes time to run out the clock.
