RE: NCAAT units earned 2024
On a per school basis, the top 7 conferences shares will be nearly the same.

Assume that the remaining four units go to each different remaining conference. Then the distribution of units (in %) for this basketball tournament will be:
14% ACC
13% SEC
13% B1G
12% B12
9% BE
8% PAC
8% MWC
3% WCC
3% A10
2% AAC
17% one-bid conferences
By contrast the future CFP distribution will be:
29% SEC
29% B1G
17% ACC
15% B12
10% G5 & ND
It’s interesting to compare the two sports’ post seasons financials from the media contracts…
1) Basketball will generate $1.1B per year; football will be $1.3B
2) the overwhelming majority of football media revenue goes directly to the football conferences
3) basketball media revenue distribution is more complex…about 65% goes to the NCAA (to fund all-sports championships, academic initiatives and general administration); and 35% goes to the basketball conferences (via the “units” scheme that is metered-out over six years) https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ncaa/fi...onPlan.pdf
When student-athletes are deemed employees, the NCAA will not be able to justify the current revenue distribution formula. Everyone will be going after direct control of the money…big conferences, small conferences, etc.

Interesting that people claimed "Conference XX is the best" based upon early round results, when what we're really seeing is that there were 7 strong leagues this year and any of them had a chance to send a school all the way. It didn't happen for some, some still have 1 or 2 that will make the final 4, but, overall, a whole lot of parity at the top.

A lot of parity this year. Top ACC team lost, but their 2, 5 and 10 teams are still alive. SEC has their #1 and #4 (but tied for 2nd in league standings) left. Big 10 has their #1 and #2 left. Big East has their #1 left. Overall, two #1 seeds are out, 3 #2 seeds are out, 3 #3 seeds are out and 2 #4 seeds are out.
