LIVING DOCUMENT

Living document = no document.

Imagine having a financial contract such as a mortgage.

Party A promises to loan money to Party B.
Party B promises to pay the money back to Party B over a specified period of time at a specific interest rate.

10 years into the agreement Party A raises interest rate by additional 10%.

or...

10 years into the agreement Party B refuses to make payments.

Is the mortgage a contract or a living document?

If 70 pecent dont care....how does that beat you.

It's not that 70% don't care. It's that they DO care and they hate your "core belief" passionately.

I'm sorry, but you just flat can't win by pissing off 70% of voters. And you can't do anything if you don't win.

I know you love the intellectual clarity of your position on the issue. But the way to get something that is 180 degrees out from your position is to insist on your "core belief/"

It amazes me how so many on the Right don't realize that the huge majority of folks, even a lot of the Right, want at least some kind of access to abortion. It's not even close. I don't agree with it, I think abortion is murder, but it's a battle that is not going to be won by people that agree with me.

And the problem is, losing that battle loses you a ton of other battles.

I think that any woman who has an abortion risks burning in hell forever, but it's not my duty to save her, and if trying to save her means I lose on things like the economy and taxes and the military, without winning on saving her, then that's just one hill not worth fighting for.

Apparently Republican leadership in the Arizona House is ready to cede control of the chamber in the fall -

"Arizona GOP Thwarts Attempt to Repeal 1864 Abortion Ban
April 10, 2024 at 6:18 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 175 Comments

“The GOP-controlled Arizona House quickly gaveled out of session after lawmakers attempted to repeal the 1864 near-total abortion ban the state Supreme Court ruled could go into effect,” the Arizona Republic reports.

“House Democrats then chanted ‘Shame!’ and ‘Save women’s lives’ while pointing at their Republican colleagues across the aisle, who began to leave the floor.”

New York Times: “Despite the pressure from Democrats and some Republicans to undo the law, it was uncertain whether Republican leaders, who narrowly control both chambers of the legislature, would allow any immediate action on proposals to repeal the ban.”"

With that attitude there is one thing you can be sure of--it is going to burn.

When a democrat-controlled congress passes a law legalizing abortion up until the moment of birth, and a democrat president signs it into law, be sure to congratulate yourself fpr a job well done--because that us exactly what your approach is going to accomplish.

LIVING DOCUMENT

AZ wasn’t even a state in 1864. Crazy ruling considering there was a more recent 15 week ban on the books that was far more in line with the people in the state.

We'll put you in the camp that hates not being able to murder your own children.

Do you draw a line anywhere, ever?

That's what I want to know. Which is more important, saving a life - in this case, millions of lives - or winning an election? Anyone who waffles on this issue is near useless. Take a position.

Yes. I draw a like at stupid stunts that lose elections.

Most humane and compassionate people draw a line at allowing murder to take place. Sorry bud, yours is a reprehensible position to take. It is literally ideology above all else.

They don't get it. They've apparently forgotten that human life is sacrosanct, or they never learned it to begin with. In the latter case they may as well be living in the hood, running with the gang bangers.

I agree, there's nothing worth saving in that scenario. This thread has been very informative, if not a little surprising, in showing me a side of a few here I didn't think existed.

I get your point that if you believe abortion is murder you shouldn't give an inch on this issue, but on the other hand it takes 5 seconds of thinking to realize that by sticking with the 1864 law vs the recently passed 15 week ban they are going to get a ballot measure legalizing probably well past 15 weeks and it will pass with probably 60% of the vote. Having that measure on the ballot will probably sink Lake's Senate run. Oh well though, let the states decide.

Gonna end up with a whole lot more abortions
