That sucks. Didn't realize he had eligibility left.

He is listed on our site as a Grad Student in 23-24. How many years do you get to play college ball these days? I guess the "Covid year" still applies. Do hate to lose him if he can still play. He was a tough competitor who always left it on the floor.

Don't hold any ill will toward DeAntoni. He gave us to very solid years and always gave 100% effort. The team who gets him will be lucky to have him. He can play at a higher level, but would he be a starter every game?

It's questionable whether he will go to another school. Myron Gardner put his name in the Portal and ended up in the G-League. Even if eligible, does he want another year of graduate school? Maybe he does. I give him credit if he really wants to attain a Master's Degree.

RE: Our First Significant Transfer
We will obviously have to hit the Portal. I do believe our first goal is to make sure KK and Jaylen stay around. I am hoping that Beljan will stay and be a major contributor next year as well. There are so many in the Portal, I have no clue who may have local connections. We know Pinion went to ASU. Doubt Devo comes here and who knows if we want him. I feel cautiously optimistic that Darrell and crew will find guys that will make us very competitive in the OVC. I would think recruiting is a little easier when you finish first, instead of missing the conference tournament. Plus, Morehead lost their coach which may set them back a little. But, an NCAA automatic bid likely would have really helped us in recruiting.

Nothing, but I can't see how he would have any eligibility left.

And we didn't think DA had anymore eligibility either.

Players in the Portal are announcing their new "homes" left and right. I hope we are working the Portal heard. It is likely that low major programs have to wait until the dust settles to get their guys, unless they have a direct connection to a particular player.

RE: Our First Significant Transfer
I didn't expect an answer so soon because we are dealing with the NCAA. However, maybe they have some empathy because the young man needs to decide soon whether he wants to play pro ball or come back to college for one more season. He apparently is requesting an extra year because he only was able to play 10 games at Maryland his freshman year (2 over the limit). Don't know what his chances are, but maybe the guys at the NCAA will have some sympathy for him since this season was so messed up do to eligibility issues and then injuries.

Ncaa rules
Have to suffer a season ending injury
Injury must occur before halfway point of the season
Must not participate in more than 30 percent of games that season
Maryland played 31 games that season so 9.3 would be 10 percent. They would have played more but covid canceled the conference tournament.

Maryland was 24-7 that season. They would have had, at least, 2 more games (Big 10 tourney; NCAA tourney). Being extremely conservative (one win in tourney or in the NCAA's), they would have had 34 games. He would have played in 29.4% of their games in that scenario. Not sure how close the NCAA studies this, or if postseason games actually count, but I am somewhat more optimistic about our chances.
