UM Vision 2024
Did anyone attend the Vision 2024 event? I couldn’t attend this year and would like to hear impressions/reports.
I do know there is great apprehension across all higher ed about enrollment numbers. With fewer 18-24 in the pipeline and college going rates are down significantly for a variety of reasons- some good- there will be an increase in program cuts and closures over the next 10-15 years.
Maybe a reset and refocus will end up a good thing for an industry that ignored changes in labor markets and accountability. UM leadership is positioning the university well but schools without large endowments will struggle.

Dr. Hardgrave spoke to the Daily Memphian the other day about the decrease in enrollment due to the 'great recession' in 2007-2009. He said expect enrollment to drop for the next 3 years.

Yes, I read the article and 41 years in education, including time as asst Dean of Admissions at the UM drive home a deep appreciation of demographics and predictive enrollment.
The Great Recession, lower birth rates, and Covid have been the triple whammy that is causing the great higher Ed reset!
I hope they post the vids of the Vision Forum. I’ve always enjoyed the peak behind the curtain for planning the future.

I assume most studies focus heavily on caucasian population nationally. Hopefully the UofM embraces metro Memphis' diversity with large African American and Hispanic populations whose birth rates are typically higher than that of white and Asian Americans.

Actually birth rates are falling across all races. Some more than others.
In racial or ethnic terms, America’s “Baby Bust” i hammered Native Americans and Hispanics particularly hard, and hit even African Americans harder than whites generally, and certainly harder than non-Hispanic whites.
