Kentucky job
Turned down by Hurley- absolutely no surprise. Turned down by Scott Drew- not really a surprise. Now many want 71 year old Rick Pitino. Seems crazy, but we will have an 80 year old President, one way or the other. Top of the list, at least, for fans is Billy Donovan. But, he has a play-in game or 2 next week with the Bulls. If they get in, they'll be in a 5 game play-off series. Can Kentucky really wait 2 or 3 weeks to hire a coach? I guess, they can if they are fine having a bad season next year. The good portal players will be long gone, and Cal's recruits will all have flipped to Arkansas (they may regardless). Also Billy has been away from the college game for about a decade. They may well end up with a midmajor coach, like Mark Pope, but who knows. I don't think they want to pay Oats' 18 million dollar buy-out. I guess Beard and Bruce Pearl may end up in the picture eventually.

RE: Kentucky job
Looking like it will be Mark Pope. Fans on the Kentucky message board are enraged. I don't get it. He played at Kentucky. Played in the NBA. Has a record of 110-52 at BYU. They moved up to the Big 12 this year and finished 23-11, 10-8 in the best conference in the country. I believe they won at Kansas. Their fans were totally delusional about getting Hurley. Mildly less delusional that an extra few million a year would get Scott Drew. Religion and family are more important to Drew than money. Because of that he would never have fit at Kentucky, where basketball is "God", and horse racing and bourbon are a close second. Who know if the Pope rumors are true but, if they are, they are getting a very solid basketball coach who loves the "blue".

Just proves the "fans" on message boards and twitter are mostly no-nothing idiots. Coach Pope had over 23,000 folks turn out at Rupp Arena for his initial press conference. They seem just a little excited about their new coach.

Apparently, 5K couldn't get in. Not sure if we'll ever get a true 5K inside our arena for an actual game.
