RE: All undergrad transfers are now immediately eligible
College athletes are now just minor league professionals. There should be a CBA and player's union, contracts for any length of time - no need to limit eligibility to 4 years.

Teams should be able to trade players unless that players contract has a no-trade clause.

Attending classes should be offered but not mandatory. At this point there is no reason to keep up the pretense of the student-athlete.

This should happen for at least football and basketball and probably all sports.

Having certain players with 3-4 year contracts would at least add a little bit of roster stability.

Should the players pay taxes on the full value of their compensation package including the value of attending classes should they elect to do so? That's a tough one but value is value and good ole Uncle Sam is always standing by with his hand out....

Sad.

You could say that about damn near every system in modern America.

And so should the fans that pay the bills. College teams no longer represent the College, so why should we care.

I find myself caring less and less with each year. But as long as we keep watching it won’t change.

I have to say that my interest has dropped off big time. It seems every player has played at multiple schools these days. It’s like professional sports without contracts. Complete roster rebuilds annually…… The NCAA has totally botched this and they’re going to get a handle on this madness.

There was nothing the ncaa could have done. What were they going to do? Give every SEC and B1G school the death penalty ?

They should have got ahead of this and offered athletes a small stipend. Something like a $500/month. There was a thought that the smaller schools couldn’t afford to keep up. How’s that working now? These mega donors giving millions to buy players? They should have killed the unlimited transfer portal nonsense.
I understand a “free market” economy, but even professional athletes sign contracts rather than become mercenaries every year. Times change and either you get on board or not. I just won’t give a dime to NIL and I’m even losing interest in college sports (and the Tigers). I’ve been a season ticket holder in both football and basketball for many years now, but I’m considering bailing on that too. Maybe the end of the basketball season has added to the loss of interest too and maybe some good seasons will renew interest. Who knows?

I think the stipend has been right around $500 per month for quite a few years unless something changed with NIL.

I totally get the free market, and I don’t blame anyone from seeking a better deal. All said, this free-or-all has diminished my enthusiasm for college sports. Again, a phenomenal football and/or basketball season would probably help things out.
