My Aunt Ruth lived in Palo Alto starting in 1945, and gifted her house upon her death to my uncle. My uncle lived in that house until the late 1990s and he sold the house for I think around 1.5M (in 1990s money!)

This is a not a really interesting story, but it gets better. He used the proceeds to open an exotic meat butcher shop where he became famous for getting in trouble for selling illegal lion meat.

He also sends my dad a very nice, very expenses kitchen knife of some sort every year. Literally, thousands of dollars of knives over the years. They are such nice knives that me dad has recently itemized them into the family will and inheritance.
