Quite disappointing, SEC opponent, warm weather, great date. Rutgers definitely would have sold out allotment.

RE: Papa Johns update
Its one of the problems of having only 8 teams in the league that the odds of teams have to retrn to same bowls increase.
In 2008 we had Rutgers in PPJ, USF in St Pete and UConn in International.
In 2009 we had same teams battling for same bowls

Birmingham in December isn't warm. When UC played there it was cold and windy.

4,000 is objectively bad, but ... i couldn't imagine traveling all the way from Connecticut to go to ... freaking Birmingham AL, so i can't cast any stones ...

Yeah, Birmingham isn't the "Las Vegas" of the south by any means. I can see why UCONN has only sold 4,000 tickets. Last year at the Music City Bowl, Boston College only brought about 2,000 fans or so and Vandy fans filled up the other 51,000 seats or so. Who knew we had that many fans? lol

Yeah... I remember watching the PJ, and, at the game, it was about 50-something and windy. Where I lived it was about 20 degrees and a snowstorm was on. So, count that as one day I would rather have been in Birmingham.

The Liberty Bowl folks are trying to stay above the Birmingham bowl in the SEC pecking order. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. The Liberty Bowl is sold out again this year thanks to Arkansas fans buying tons of tickets. I'm sure that ECU will bring another good crowd too.

RE: Papa Johns update
It was chilly at the PJ Bowl when UC was there, but not any worse than it had been during the last couple games of the regular season that year. The Pitt game this year was much colder... I had no issues with the Bowl outside of the crappy stadium and neighborhood (but with so much police around it was not an issue). We stayed the night after the game in Birmingham and had a blast, found our way to a nice bar and watched more games.

Is a COLD day today in Tampa, is 48 degrees and sunny but feels like 46 degrees....... But our fans are supposed to want to travel to Toronto which is 10 degrees and feels like -3 degrees right now. Who in hell would expect thousands of Bulls fans to be there? I imagine KL will be quoting our numbers around internet for awhile. 03-lmfao

I know the game is inside but, this is the BEST time of year to be OUTDOORS in florida. I also dont think many fans travel and spend thousands just to see the game.
It was cheaper for me to take my family to El Paso, where we traveled and saw Carlsbad caverns etc. Remember if you have a family ,you must have other activities other than the football game. Chances of me convincing the Mrs and the kids to leave our home in Miami Beach for New Years for 10 degres weather in Canada, while spending close to 3-4k were slim to none and thats reality

Understandable, cuban. That being said, it isn't like there isn't anything to do in Toronto. It is a big city with lots of museums and things of that sort. I can fully understand not wanting to leave Miami to go there, but the family excuse isn't it.

It's a tough cycle to break out of: Because we (as a conference, WVU excepted) don't have a rep for traveling well, we get stuck with lousy bowls in undesirable locations (like PJ and INT), and then because those are lousy bowls in bad locations ... our fans quite understandably don't travel well to them ...

Give the other BCS conferences our crappy bowl lineup and see how well they travel. How many SEC fans would go to Toronto? Would Big Ten fans really travel well to Birmingham?

That's my point: The SEC and Big 10 are caught in a 'virtuous circle': Because they travel well and draw well on TV, they get plum bowls in desirable places like Tampa, Atlanta, Dallas, and Orlando. Which of course entices their fans to attend them, thus reinforcing their rep as having ... good-traveling fans!

Big East fans need to suck it up and go to these lousy bowls in bad locations. That will build our rep and allow us to attract better bowls in future cycles. If we don't, well, we're kind of stuck.
