I wouldn't consider Rutgers an Arkansas by any means. The closest school to an SEC school is PSU.
I believe he was referring to Rutgers getting a match-up with Arkansas, not being like Arkansas.

Good point. Just noticed what he was trying to say when reading your post. LMAO

If the ACC could get past the "academic" issues, they'd have expanded to 16 with SU, Pitt, WVU, and Louisville already, imho.
Improves both football and basketball.
But academics trumps athletics in the ACC.

I recall reading ND didn't want an eastern school to be paired with them if they ever joined to big 10 do to the fact or theory nd wanted to be viewed as the eastern school in the big 10. I guess if that theory holds, the big 10 would of course ask texas to be team 14 if nd ever joined but maybe settle for kansas.

I wouldn't put any stock in that rumor. It's kind of hard for Notre Dame to be seen as the Eastern team in the Big Ten if they don't ever play anyone in the East. That's why when they have joined conferences for other sports it has always been an Eastern League.

Doubt it. ND would be hard-pressed to be considered THE "eastern" team in the BiG with Penn State already there.

This is one of the key reasons why the ACC even has a decent shot of getting the Irish as a full-sports member, should ND ever decide to give up their cherished football independence (which is a ways off now).

RE: ACC has 16 team model w/ ND and UConn ready
Not that I agree with this but I tend to think that Texas may end up in the ACC sometime down the road. Their AD and President have been quoted saying that if they leave the B12, they're heading East and not west. The ACC and B1G are really the only two options on that front.

RE: ACC has 16 team model w/ ND and UConn ready
It is prudent for the ACC to plan a 16 team model. Personally, I would take Rutgers over UConn as they have a bigger TV market and better football recruiting. I doubt Notre Dame is going to join the ACC unless it is forced to so I would plan for Rutgers and UConn. It would be a very potent package to sell to advertisers by having the whole eastern seaboard in one conference.
Notre Dame would be great but I cannot see them joining unless they get shut out of the BCS or something like that.

It's unlikely there would be expansion beyond 14 without a "big name" football program being #15. So I just don't see UConn and Rutgers coming in as a combo.
Now, if the ACC were to lose 1 or 2 members, they might expand with one or both of them as replacements but highly unlikely they would as 15 and 16.
Cheers,
Neil

I can only see UConn and Rutgers coming together if like you said, they lost 2 teams and want to go back to 14, orrr that ND as joined the big 10/12 and its 'cool' to have 16 teams.

Maybe the ACC would add UConn and Rutgers so it can open up the TV contract again. Especially with the way the other conferences are making money with their TV contracts, the ACC has to try something to try and catch up.

Only way I see that happening is if that creates a 4 team ACC playoff. That way you generate even more revenue with 3 post season games rather than just 1. So in essence what happens with the "Alliance" could be a game changer.
