I did a little investigation, and as much as I admire Ron Paul's tenacity and offensive approach to cutting federal departments that are unnecessary, the real issue with our education system is a lack of general oversight by the states and cities that are charged with the safety and freedoms of the students and faculty.

Bullying is a problem that the federal government has no power to address, because it isn't a federal problem. Those schools that can't inhibit in-school bullying should be disciplined with a lack of funding. However, I also did notice that Facebook harbored part of the bullying that was ongoing.

Anyways, where was this young man's parents in all of this?

there for him...according to the story shortly before killing himself he told his mother "Mom, you don’t know how it feels to be hated."

No, what's gross is a society where kids are forced to grow up without getting tough. Kids can't even win/lose a t-ball game anymore. You raise soft, weak sissys, you get soft, weak sissys. Is there anything about you that can allow you to be bullied into suicide?

You cannot extrapolate from him telling his mom about his anguish that his parents were 'there for him'. He committed suicide.

Ever play tackle football without the tackling? How do you think a guy that played that way would handle his first real tackle game? Not very well is my assumption - probably quit like a sniveling little pig dog.

And it's not aggression, it's preparation, experience, and hard work that drives success, not being hidden in mommy's womb until your wedding day. Why do you think drill sargeants are tough?

and you cannot extrapolate the opposite...he clearly felt OK with talking to his mother about his problem...so i'm going to assume he has normal parents...or are you wanting to blame them?

Apparently not, or they would have pulled him from the school.

So, the public schools overtly failed this kid, and you want to blame it on the people who would like to reform them.

Where did I ever say that? The kid killed himself because he wasn't taught to cope with his problems. I'm surprised you didn't accuse me of pulling the trigger.

Yes, you should. But how many kids get death threats every year and how many are actually killed by the people making the threats?

Sad, twisted, and sick individuals. Of course folks like smn1256 aren't going to give a rats ass if a gay kid kills himself. One less gay kid. Why would anybody think these type of scum would ever care? This is the kind of attitude that leads to deaths. I wish these kids would realize that the opinions of ignorant fools like smn1256 and his ilk don't matter in the slightest, but unfortunately at that age it's hard to wrap their heads around the fact that things do get better. It's a shame and a tragedy, but you have bitter people who are trying to prevent any assistance in this area because they want to be sure their kids have the right and freedom to bully gay kids with fairy tales and morality based on ancient myths. It's a screwed up world.

But it's changing... slowly. I think that's why some of these folks are so bitter and angry. They see their version of what life should be like, and what America should be like, slipping slowly but inexorably away. Gotta be a lot of grinding teeth out there in wingnut-land every time a new poll comes out showing a vast and growing majority of young people supporting gay rights and gay marriage. Their battle is lost.

The fools and haters are slowly being replaced - weeded out of the herd, if you will - and it can't happen soon enough.

I agree. But if you get them, then the schools should do something about it. They didn't, ergo they failed.

This is straightforward easy enough for even you to understand.

You want to blame someone, then look at the 80+% Democrat public schools.
