Personally, I'd rather see cross-division rivals near the beginning of the season (as well as the other 2 non-divisional games), then close out the season with divisional games. (That way if there is a rematch in the ACC championship game at least there will be some time between the first & second meeting)

PROBLEM: Unless divisions are redrawn, Clemson won't play Duke every year (they are not in the same division). Even so, if Clemson plays Duke as a tune-up game, who would FSU play? No, the 4 teams who play SEC rivals in week 13 need either a bye or an home OOC game the week before. All this would mean (in a North/South division world) is...
4 of the 7 South teams would have this schedule:
1 OOC game (e.g. Clemson vs. Auburn)
3 North teams
6 South teams
1 FCS team
1 SEC Rival game
The other 3 South teams and all 7 of the North teams would have this schedule:
1 OOC game (no more GT vs. VT in game #1)
3 non-division games
8 divisional ACC games mixed-in with 2 OOC games
There needs enough flexibility for up to 5 ACC teams to play Notre Dame OOC during the last 8 weeks of the year - so they can't play all of their OOC games in the same week.

The point is to mix the chedule up a little. Once the teams are designated for the fall slate, simle ensure that the stronger teams are scheduled a softer game before their rival week game. There is no need to schedule all the tough games consecutively. There should be compelling match-ups each week of conference play. So what if Clemson plays a soft ACC team the week before they pl;ay USC(east) and FSU plays another soft ACC team or has a bye the week before they play Florida. I want out our best teams to beat other conferences best teams. That is how you diminish the SEC's hold on top bowls and increase the ACC reputation.

As long as it's a home-and-home set-up, I think Pitt would be foolish not to push for this as well. Too bad it can't be a season-ending series.
Thoughts from Pitt fans?
Cheers,
Neil
I'm not a Pitt fan but as an outsider I would jump at the opportunity.
Its kind of strange that the two big football programs in Pennsylvania do not play each other. I'm having a hard time coming up with another state that does that?
It was all because of that arrogant, crusty old Joe Paterno that the Pitt-PSU series died. Now that he is off to the great beyond, I think that you will see that series revived.

Yeah, I'd definately plan to watch that game. It will probably be the only big 10 team I see play till the bowls.

I'm guessing it won't even be the only Big Ten team you see play that day

9/10/16 Penn St @ Pitt

The problem with that is I'll miss the Pitt game if it starts anywhere around the start of the VT game because of tailgating and getting out after the game.
Good pick up though, on a VT game 4 years out being on the same day as the Pitt game.

Not surprising....
What a WUSS!
I don't see any way around it... college football MUST go to 13 regular season games.

Makes it sound like Penn St. will go bankrupt if they have only 6 home games instead of 7 every other year.

I don't see any way that it will become a regular series again. I doubt that Pitt will schedule both ND and PSU every season and it's unlikely that PSU will make it a priority either.

PSU will be committed to play a P12 opponent every year under the B1G's scheduling agreement. Playing Pitt annually would mean playing two OOC opponents requiring a home and home.

I thought the Big 10/Pac 12 scheduling agreement was the Rose Bowl. What, do they want rematches? PSU/Pitt should be a battle every year.
