My point is, there is no deadline in July. Boise just needs to find a home. Hopeully that will be the Big West, but if not, it wont be the end of the world. There are options.

Just curious, name one other team that has been in the situation Boise currently finds itself in. I would agree that no other team has not moved up but no other team has been asked to sacrafice it's other sports. TCU refused to accept a football only offer.
What is Boise sacrificing? If they get into the Big West, that's where SDSU is with their Oly sports. And if they get in a saved WAC w/o FB, or the Great West or the Summit League, how is that sacrificing anything? Heck, being admitted to the BE all sports would be a bigger "sacrifice" for Boise's Oly sports than all those options.

Boise doesn't want its other sports in BE any more than the BE wants them. Travel cost would be horrid, for both.

RE: Big East Preparing To Take Another Run At BYU/Air Force---SDSU AD
Since BYU's only realistic option outside of the BE is the Big 12, and the Big 12 may want to get back to 12 at some point, say they add UL and BYU, would they stick at 11 teams for Olympic sports since BYU would be football only? Or would they add ND for Olympic sports? I am not saying that will happen or is even realistic, but that seems to be the only play BYU could hold out for.

If the BE settles at Air Force I think we will all be upset. I just want to get to 16 and be done with it. We have a solid core with the 6 schools out east plus Navy and Temple. I wouldn't change that.

Nightmare scenario for the BE is the Big 12 adds Ga Tech, Clemson, FSU, ND. Then the ACC would add Rutgers, UConn and probably stop there. Maybe take UL and UC because they have good basketball and are a new TV market. I think conference USA and MWC would merge at that point. Actually, I don't think that scenario would be all that bad. BB schools split and the end of the Big East, but it would give every conference 12-14 teams at least.

However, I do believe that the Big Easts national scope and big city locations may be very attractive to the BYU decision makers for those same exposure reasons. If the Big East ends up on NBC's over the air flagship channel with weekly saturday double headers paired with Notre Dame---I suspect that might be very appealing to the LDS leadership.

Exactly this! Let's not forget that BYU is still governed by the Church and its leadership. And their primary priority is Exposure! If the BE contract is right, BYU is interested and the $$$ amount will be an after-thought.

I don't think exposure is quite right. My understanding is they want to drive people to BYU TV. Remember they control the commercials there and they pay to get the station on basic cable. BYU football drives the faithful to tune in. If you are a church leader this is highly valuable.

You can't replace this value on NBC TV. I do think the AD wants out of independence for all the reasons mentioned but they sold this to the leaders and it is so compelling they can't back out.

Its not ideal. But it wouldnt kill the program and it would be temporary. The Big East would likley help out with some scheduling arrangements. Especially the other western division teams. Idaho and New Mexico St look to be in the same situation, except they wont be getting a big check from football.

My point is, there is no deadline in July. Boise just needs to find a home. Hopeully that will be the Big West, but if not, it wont be the end of the world. There are options.

Boise stands to make a lot more money by being a football member of the Big East. They are not going to allow trouble placing their olympic sports to screw that up. Nobody ever has.

If they get in the big west sure. But that is a stalemate right now with the Big West wanting Fresno/UNLV and the big east wanting BYU.

The Horizon League is a ludicrous statement and if the MVC loses a Creighton they might be possible but Denver would be more attractive to them.

The summit and Great West don't have autobids in mnay sports and the schools are all looking to move up. Going to those conferences from the MWC would be like Memphis going from the Big East to the Sun Belt.

Oh and independent is not an option. Scheduling independent in football is hard enough. You would never get Oct OOC games in something like Women's Volleyball.

Once again.its all about football. If you think Boise will give up 5 million a year and more football prestige to be in all sports in mwc you are fooling yourself. All Boise has to do is promise to pay for travel like Hawaii does. I'm sure that's what they are working ith Big East on.

Hawaii pays the Big West 500 k a year. I'm sure Boise will work something similar

Where are you getting this stuff? There has not been a single Big West official who has even hinted they have any interest in Fresno State. There has not been a single Big West official that has stated that if Fresno comes they would take Boise. As best I can tell, the Big West is just fine like they are and doesnt really have alot of interest in expansion. They would probably be fine with Fresno, but I have no idea if they care enough about having Fresno to take Boise. Perhaps they would, but there is not a single shred of evidence to support it.

While I think Fresno would be a good Big East addition and would probably have a higher upside ceiling than Air Force---there is no evidence that they are even being considered by the Big East.

The reality is that Boise is going to the Big East. They will place thier sports in the Big West if possible. If not, they will get cracking on rebuilding the WAC. If that doesnt work they will try for another less desireable conference option. If that fails, they will go independent and get schedualing help from the Big East. Boise has made thier decision.

The only thing that will reverse it is if the Big East totally implodes---which is why they have not withdrawn from the Mountain West. I suspect that is a 30 day back-up plan in case the Big East implodes during that time---its essentially a free 30 day insurance plan. Frankly, there is absolutely nothing to be gained by Boise withdrawing prior to the MW deadline. Thats the reason they havent done it. On the last possible day, Boise will withdraw from the MW. Why? Because its in Boise's best interests to withdraw in that fashion.

With UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, and SDSU, they've got a good start. Let's see how the newbies do in the next few years.

What about Memphis and Temple? They aren't exactly chopped liver.

I agree. I just had a "senior moment".

When it comes to hoops, the correct term is Air Ball.

I've responded to him all I'm going to, mostly for others, and not to convince him. He simply has an agenda that causes him to reject anything that doesn't fit into that agenda.

Barkboard insider board. It is no secret the big west would like Fresno or UNLV. It is no secret the big east wants BYU or AF. Whether some will move will see but no deal has been announced yet. I am skeptical just money will do it but I suppose everyone has a price.
