Any update on whether the ACC plans to adjust the divisions?
I know we've talked about it before, but is there any concrete news or strong rumors that the Coastal and Atlantic will be changed, or is the plan to still add Pitt to the current Coastal and Syracuse to the current Atlantic?

RE: Any update on whether the ACC plans to adjust the divisions?
I have heard that FSU is throwing a temper tantrum about GT being in the Atlantic. They want them in the same division as them. I really like GT and think could be would be a great Pitt rival. However; if FSU fan boys feel sooooo strongly about this, thus providing more internet rumors about FSU wanting to play in Morganhole WV every other year then, I say, " let them have GT". Swap GT out with Maryland... Pitt should play the Terps every year anyway, it would benefit the ACC, FSU, Pitt, MD and everyone can suck on their pacifier and be happy! Except Catdaddy, cause Clemson still won’t be in the Bevo12 suckin on a Longhorn Teet... cause that is his wet dream.

Whom have you heard that from?
I think there are quite a few FSU fans that are vehemently opposed to being in a separate division as GT but I haven't seen any GROUP of fans on ANY FSU fan site having a tantrum.
It must be pretty easy for a noob to come in and make ridiculous claims about a long-standing member school when that school is apparently trying to look out for its own best interest.
Good luck to your Panthers.

Miko, I've read nothing that indicates the ACC will do anything different than Cuse to the Atlantic and Pitt to the Coastal other than fan desires on this message board. I'm pretty sure it's set in stone that the divisions will stay the way they are.

ACC isn't changing the divisions anytime soon. Sad but true.
In fact we're !!!

Thinking about it. I bet the original, 12 members, divisional setup pitch had BC and GT switched. Like this..
Clemson - Boston College
Florida State - Miami
Georgia Tech - Virginia Tech
Maryland - Virginia
NC State - North Carolina
Wake Forest - Duke
They, GT, probably wanted to be in a division with Duke, UNC, and UVA. Whom they have long series with. BC, being a noob, couldn't complain about being swapped from Miami and VT.

I mean that FSU fans want to be in the same division as GT. Thats what I mean when I say swap GT with MD. FSU could then have GT in their division and from my own "fan" perspective MD in the same division as Pitt seems like a natural fit?

North/South split with Miami in the North. Everybody wins to the fullest extent possible. It becomes possible to be more nuanced with 16 teams and pods.

And by "temper tantrum" you mean, "Look at me, I don't know jack s***," I'm guessing?

Not to my knowledge. I don't follow any bloggers on expansion.

GT-CU-FSU are really a triplet that should stay together in whatever division that may be. That is the ACC football old guard. Pull in NC and you have a division -- and almost exactly a return to the 90's football schedule. With the exception of UVA and UMD of course ... but aside from the microblip of early Fridge and UMD and some Welsh years at UVA ... you won't find many GT/CU/FSU fans that will cry about that not being an every year game.

A lot of the Big East transplants don't grasp this and I agree completely. N/S with Miami in the North should be how the divisions are aligned. I don't know why these new schools in the BE seem to be able to wield more power than FSU/Clemson who get left behind in the Atlantic. The Coastal keeps getting the better teams in expansion and the other stuff is dumped in the Atlantic (including giving FSU the 2 furthest trips away in BC/Cuse).
Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech should be the football teams heading one division with Miami, Va Tech and Pitt heading the other division. ACC pre BE expansion and Big East teams together. Miami gets BC back too which makes sense.

+100.
If they would start with that basic concept and fill-in the other 8 teams around that, I think it would be just fine. There must be at least a dozen ways to align it that would meet everyone's basic needs.
Of course, some fans who live really close to a certain stadium will always want their team to play there, but that's just life (the closest ACC stadium for me is Clemson, but VT rarely plays there - oh, well).

RE: Any update on whether the ACC plans to adjust the divisions?
The closest ACC team to me is Pitt but it should be about rivalries and Pitt/FSU isn't a rivalry. Just like Syracuse and BC will never be rivals of FSU.
Should be the 4 NC teams in the FSU/GT/Clemson division and the other 4 in the other division. People talk about NC having to be split even for recruiting. Well why aren't Maryland/Pitt/VA/Va Tech split evenly? And why are Boston/NY both in the Atlantic instead of split?
Enough with the contrived divisions. Do it the common sense way for once.

Agreed.

Don't go down that road, Ragu... the logical conclusion is that Ga Tech and FSU should be split (for Georgia and N. Florida recruiting).
Personally, for rivalry sake I'd like to see 2 distinct pools of talent - kind of like the SEC has with East (dominated by GA & FL) and West (dominated by AL & LA). It will be interesting to see what effect Mizzou and TAMU have on the whole SEC rivalry thing...

If anything your numbers point to N/S split with Miami in the North even more. They would pickup BC/Cuse who are higher in their played opponents. UNC gets Wake and Clemson back. FSU gets GT back who would have had been higher than Clemson had they gotten the divisions right in the first place. GT gets back Wake, NC State and FSU. Clemson gets back UNC/Duke.

What it shows is you are whining for nothing.
You would rather VT, Maryland, and UVA get totally shafted than to have everyone integrated.
