If ND gets all the perks and isn't made a full member, FSU/Clemson should demand the same. And if the exit fee doesn't take effect right away, they could get out if their demands weren't met.
I for one would like the ACC done right over going to the Big 12. But if the divisions aren't realigned and ND gets perks without becoming a full member, then these teams leaving could very well happen still.
i'd venture a guess the exit fees are in effect immediately.

The Pinstripe Bowl gives out 2mil. If the ACC got that then it would be the 4th highest paying ACC bowl.

Yeah, this is huge. I just hope Georgetown comes along as well :)
As do I. G'town fits academically with the ACC very well. Unlike UConn or Louisville.

It's kinda in meltdown mode right now. Many are saying it doesn't matter because they're average at basketball and don't play Big East school's in football.

Which means an already weak bowl package gets even weaker because Notre Dame isn't going to be stealing an Independence or Military Bowl bid away from the real conference schools.
We just became the Big East.
Still to be determined.
Don't know what next ancillary bowl options acc will get now.
It won't be weaker for sure, imo.
At least every team will play them in a rotation, unlike the BE.

FIFY. I believe the ACC was going to get the PinStripe bowl anway (payout: $1.8M). Now I'm 90% sure.

That's great.
The SEC's #6 bowl pays more than that.

So it sounds like Clemson needs to finish in the top 3 of the ACC every year. From what I've been hearing it sounds like you guys think the 6th best SEC team is as good as the 3rd best ACC team, so the threshold should be about the same, right?

Well, now we could finish in the Top 3 and still be relegated to playing in a cold weather bowl in a baseball stadium because we just gave ND access to all of our bowls except the Orange, and they aren't going to Shreveport, Nashville, or Washington DC.
The TV payout upgrade better put us right thee with, not in the range of, the other four conferences or else this was a colossal mistake.

RE: ND will join ACC... agreement 5 football games
I hate this move. I've said it a million times - ND needs to bring football or go home. Apparently, the leadership at the ACC is weaker than I expected. The ONLY thing that will make this worthwhile for me is if there is a plan to get them into the ACC 100%, football included, in the fairly near future.
From a Pitt perspective, this hurts us. We play ND nearly every year anyway. Now we'll lose that game because ND needs to play the other ACC teams. With ND being locked into 5 games with our conference there's no way they'll play 6 just to play Pitt because it would mean dropping one of their other yearly opponents. Not good.
Secondly, now we're not all sports anymore. I think that's a big deal and a key to conference stability which played into the demise of the Big East. ND will get a seat at the big boy table despite not being all in and at the end of the day this benefits ND and only ND. Now they can influence ACC football without playing ACC football...pretty sweet, huh?
Just wait until they start taking our bowl games away, too. I'd rather them not be involved at all in helping to secure the bowl game package because everything good they do for the conference will be outdone when they take a spot away from a real ACC team.
Shame on the ACC and Swofford. Bad, bad decision today unless there is a mandatory path to full membership that we don't know about.

RE: ND will join ACC... agreement 5 football games
one thing I'd say- ACC has a pretty strict wins rule, so if ND is like 7-5, they're not going to a bowl over a 9-3 or 10-2 team. But, the thing has been that there's not been that 9-3 or 10-2 team outside of #2 most of the time.
and let's look at 2009. ND went 6-6.
With the ACC rules:
GT- champion
Clemson 8-5 safe vs ND
BC 8-4 safe vs ND
VT 9-3 safe vs ND
Mia 9-3 safe vs ND
NC 8-4 safe vs ND
ND would have been with FSU that year in the pecking order.

I've seen a couple mentions that FSU supported adding ND and the increased exit fees.

ndlutz, you shouldn't be surprised. This conference screws things up football wise on a regular basis. If they aren't a full member soon, this is a junk move. Swofford would have bent over and taken it from ND.

Hopefully we get some answers in this presser about ND's plans to join full time sometime down the road.
Great points ndlutz.

RE: ND will join ACC... agreement 5 football games
Fellas.. it's "stage #1" - it was unrealistic for anyone to believe ND would join full membership immediately. Yes, football is king today, but, there are factors in place (concussion management) that are starting to erode its place. Look at it from an overall athletic big picture. Or at least try.
The key is "5" games -- depending on the rotation of schools (stever, what's the word), this will give ND purists time to get used to all the ACC schools, home/away, and providing FSU and Clemson with another sellout in the time span. This also gives ND time to unwide itself from its current football agreements and rearrange things...
The ACC had leverage because ND did NOT want to have its olympic sports associated with the nBE -- please don't underestimate that fact. I'm willing to bet board clout there is language in the agreement pertaining to ND's path to full membership sometime between now and 2025 (give or take a few years). However, that stuff will not reach the press at this time.
It's a process fellas -- remember, they chose the ACC over the Big XII.
As much as y'all are hating this now, 3/4 of us would be looking for a bridge if the Irish signed this deal with the Big XII b/c it would have been "game over" for the ACC as a major player.
Keep that in mind. Or at least try.

Unfortunately I doubt we'll get any answers at the press conference - particularly on the most important point, which is whether or not there is a plan in effect NOW for ND to join in football.

RE: ND will join ACC... agreement 5 football games
I don't think 3X the TV disbursements is enough to keep FSU and Clemson as full members for the duration of the TV contract. I was hoping for either a grant of rights to the conference or a signed agreement that no one could leave until the TV contract was up. I guess time will tell.
