I would've enjoyed seeing a good home-and-home football series between Marshall and WMU scheduled. We played a couple wild MAC champioinship games together in 1999-2000 not to mention a few regular season games. But I do understand that MU is generally closer to their former MAC East opponents, particularly Ohio U.

And who is "Marshall as a whole"?
Me for one... so that's not everyone. And in all honesty, I would say 80% or more is not happy. The people who thinks this is a great conference coming up are the only ones speaking up because everyone who is against it has now just given up. To be honest, if they announced we would be returning to the Mac, I would be ecstatic. At least there would be no school in the conference who just added football. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it doesnt make me want to take a road trip to see MU play Charlotte.
RE: My conversation with some key people from Marshall about CUSA....
Good information. Obviously CUSA is keeping its options open. As for ECU and Marshall continuing its series...............I'd like to see Marshall and USM as two permanent OOC games rotated every year.
USM even years / Marshall odd years
ACC school (UNC/UVA/NCSU/Va Tech/Duke)
SEC school (South Carolina, Tennessee)
Rotational school (BYU, W.Va, Sunbelt, Charlotte, ODU)
Could just about travel to every away game with relative ease.

Are you kidding me??? C-USA just brought in FCS and Sunbelt teams... that is the definition of "mish mash" and "irrelevant" I'm not really sure what your agenda is, but your lack of common sense baffles me.
If you like the new C-USA, great! That's your prerogative. But you have to be insane to think that it's in Tulsa's or any of the long standing members' best interest to stay in this watered down version of what once was... Expect a huge drop off in recruiting, even worse (yes I suppose it's possible) attendance and an overall lack of buzz about Tulsa sports in the city of Tulsa.
Nbe is not inviting any more CUSA schools--so TU fans can forget about that one. Regarding MWC, been there, done that.
TU has put fine football teams on the field in the past without having the benefits of a nice conference affiliation like CUSA. TU is enjoying its finest era of football succcess, something like 8 bowl games in the last 10 years, I don't know if I have the numbers right.
Anyway, not playing Houston and SMU in our division, that's basically what we are down to in this conference affilation thing, I don't think that not playing UH and SMU is a make or break point in TU's success. I think it is what TU does with its nonconference games that are significant and the eye catcher, OU, OSU, ISU, Ohio State, and so on.
RE: My conversation with some key people from Marshall about CUSA....
If Marshall went back to the God awful frozen tundra we call the Mac....id never go to another game. Some of you are straight ridiculous. The teams who just started football are already on the same level as most of the Mac teams who have played for years.... kind of a no brained.

Some of those games were just crazy. I'd be open to a series with Western Michigan.
I was one of the ones hanging from the goal post on this occasion:
RE: My conversation with some key people from Marshall about CUSA....
I enjoyed our time with the MAC but I do not want to go back.
Hope we keep playing ECU- every other year would be good.
As far as the Tulsa fans go I get your upset, our main CUSA rivals were ECU and UCF. If USM moves to the west we will not be playing them frequently so we get the lose of rivals. UAB is the only team we played regularly that is likely left in our division. I think the conference has decent up-side. Thanks for the original post MUHERD76!

To avoid relapsing into a temporary state of depression, I didn't click on the clip to watch it unfold again. That was among my top 3 most painful football games of all time (although it was memorable/exciting, I have to admit).
Funny thing is that it wouldn't have hurt SO bad if the same thing happened now, although it'd still sting a lot. Back then there was only one bowl on the line for the conference, it went to the MACC winner, and that was it. So it was really for all the marbles. Loser (us) literally went home.
RE: My conversation with some key people from Marshall about CUSA....
Wow. This just makes me want to leave even more.
So apparently we should appeal to Marshall and ECU because they're on their own little island out there. Then ECU leave. Now Marshall has themselves their pretty little drives and the rest of us are sitting here saying WTH.
I'm sorry, but I don't like a conference office who ignores their founding members to appease some whiners who could have, and possibly should have, stayed in the MAC. I'd tell them to get over it and be lucky they're here.

I guess you have been in all the meetings regarding the teams we were going to take. MTSU was best addtion we could make

Has anyone looked at the records of NM, Wy, and CSU? I don't think they have more than 4 or 5 wins...and, this, is not an aberation but their history. Oklahoma, a relatively small state of less than 4 million people, produces more IA football players that the states of NM, Colorado, Wy, and Nevada combined. There is a reason their football sucks.
TU beat Fresno in the LIberty Bowl; beat the MWC Co-Champs again this season. Walloped NM last time they played. Has NM and CSU on the upcoming nonconference schedule. WHy in the hell would one ditch CUSA/WEST for this mish mash of irrelevant football teams in a nonexistant tv market, palyed away from our alumni, and played where there is absolutely no hope to entice football recruits?
What would a school like Tulsa do if it found itself, unfortunately, in MWC? Probably turn around on DAY 1 and start scheduling as many Texas schools as possible for nonconference games for what reason? You guess it! There is where the alumni live, there is where we recruit, there is where the tv exposure is. Wyoming has less than 1/2 million people; NM folks wait for bb season...but bb doesn't drive the bus.
I look forward to playing UNT in Dalls-Ft. Worth Metro, and maybe the Dallas Kickoff classic too. I look forward to playing Rice in Houston, and UTSA in San Antonio, now a must trip with the River Walk. And UTEP has always been there for some time, a traveler of the road.
There seem to be some Tulsa fans that want to emulate the human drive that is within all of us, unfortunately, to "put down" someone by dissing them. It is an unfortunate disease that plagues mankind. But the best interest of all current CUSA schools is to make this conference work; it is our best option. And it is an excellent option.
The Nbe invitees will have substantial traveling expenses in playing their nonconference games. My guess they will try to save travel costs and schedule close-by teams. In other words, like Tulsa playing NM and CSU, my guess is that many of the old and new CUSA schools will end up playing the Nbe invitees in nonconference games. To a certain extent, they already do.
Excellent post Tallgrass.....I know some TU fans think they would like the MWC better, but I do not think the TU administration will fall into that trap again. The CUSA West Region is a perfect fit for Tulsa and I think that is exactly what the TU administration has pushed for the last few years.
RE: My conversation with some key people from Marshall about CUSA....
I'm pumped to get up to Marshall and visit the fine establishment where the story was born. Easily the funniest message board thread in the history of the universe.

Honest question... how would you feel right now if Tulsa and Houston had left the conference and you were left here with an uncertain future? Put yourself in our shoes.

Okay, put the pipe down. You sound like a NCSU fan right now. We moved to a better paying confrence, not the SEC. We are ECU, not State or Bama, stop acting like them.
