Aresco: Big East Still Capable of Good TV Deal
http://www.newsday.com/sports/college/bi...-1.4301737
Interesting info in here:
Quote:He admitted the Big East might have to negotiate contracts with multiple media entities to maximize revenue and denied the possibility of a move by the basketball schools to form their own league. "Our basketball schools have been committed to this model," Aresco said. "There are a lot of reasons to be with the football schools. We think, ultimately, it produces more revenue for everyone."
Quote:If they do hang together, it's likely the traditional Big East basketball schools will see more of each other and play fewer games against the expansion members. Aresco said the league is considering a scheduling model where "brand name" teams such as St. John's, Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette and Connecticut might play more home-and-home series.
"The media companies really like that idea, and so do our basketball schools," Aresco said. "Our southern cluster of schools understand they're going to raise their brand awareness because of Big East basketball. So, if there are more games among the other teams, they can work with that. It's the kind of thing that will strengthen our conference."
And the Football side could go to 16:
Quote:Aresco declined to name possible expansion targets but said the Big East is working to add western partners to support the addition of Boise State and San Diego State. "We haven't ruled out a 16-team conference with eight-team divisions if it made sense financially and in terms of media and our membership," Aresco said to Newsday.

The optimism has gone down considerably recently.

I think he's just tired and worked to death. The antithesis of Meatballs time in the BE.

Wouldn't count the highly vocal crowd that wants the Big East to fail as ever having been optimistic.

I just hope the contract gets negotiated soon. I'm getting tired of the wait and the lack of anything concrete. And the message boards are so speculative it's driving me nuts!

I think we are going to see a 20 game basketball schedule where the conference doubles up on the best games to maximize revenue. I expect my Bearcats to have home and home with Marquette, Memphis, and three of the following Temple, UConn, Georgetown, St. John's, and Villanova.
I just hope this conference gets paid because we need.

Well the Big East did finally quiet some of it's loudest critics.

So now we can't even look forward to our basketball playing the brand name teams in the conference much? Nice. This move is looking better and better. {SARCASM}

My guess: two hoops divisions.
Old school:
UConn
Providence
St. Johns
Villanova
Georgetown
Marquette
DePaul
Seton Hall
New school:
UCF
USF
Cincinnati
Memphis
SMU
Houston
Temple
Tulane
Each team does a home & home with every team in the same division (14 games) and plays 6 more games against teams in the other division. Division winners get seeds 1 and 2 in the tournament and the rest of the tournament is seeded based on record.

Pretty simple. You just do north south divisions for basketball you play each team in your division twice and that would pretty much take care of that wouldn't it?

amen....and kudos for the sense of humor.
I don't expect that the power basketball programs not playing the southern schools as often as they play each other will go over well in Memphis, but if that keeps the conference together; it's all good in the long run.

Do we need another geography lesson today to determine where "north" and "south" are?
I thought "east" was pretty simple, but was wrong.
