Does Tulsa go to the NBE if invited?
I don't think it's a done deal yet. Tulsa is a small market and there is no interest in them nationally. And the Big East TV contract is already smaller than we hoped for; does the conference really need another mouth to feed? But conventional wisdom says Tulsa will probably get an invitation sometime in the next few months.
So does Tulsa accept an invitation if it comes? Fans like Tallgrass seem to think Tulsa is in a pretty good place right now in C-USA (great schedules, opponents, etc.). Do they give all that up to be with SMU, Memphis, Houston, and Tulane? I think they do, but I'm not sure.

I don't see this group doing any expanding for a while. If Navy reaffirms its intention to join the unnamed conference after a final tv deal is signed and the bowl deals are inked, then expansion might be in order. I don't think an invite is happening anytime soon.

So, how important is the media market aspect of a team now after Old Big East contract came out?
I'm sure they still matter to a certain level, but it's not like Tulsa is small.

Tulsa may go.....then again I'm not so sure. My guess is that UMASS and Buffalo will be a factor for geographic reasons.

I on't see why Tulsa wouldn't go if offered. The only difference in a Western division would be going to Cincy instead of SoMiss. Umass and Buffalo don't factor at all. UMass may get a look one day, especially if Navy doen't come on board in '15. Buffalo has nothing to offer.

Tulsa's market is only slightly smaller than New Orleans & Memphis. From a NYC perspective we are in the middle of nowhere. (I am a NY native).
Houston fan is right, for all sports yes, football-only no.
Edited comment: Don't ever assume Tallgrass comments are a Tulsa point of view. He is usually on the other side of the argument.

I think they do factor if the new conference wants to keep a presence in the Northeast and keep Temple/UConn happy.

At this point, they might take football only because Conference USA has gone to the shitter and is basically now the Sun Belt plus a couple other leftovers.

Why worry about keeping UConn happy, when you know they are on the next bus out of town? Adding UMass just creates another outlying school when UConn leaves, especially if Navy doesn't come. The nBE doesn't need more northeastern schools; it needs more central time zone schools where most of the new schools are. At the very least, they should add south of the Mason-Dixon or west of Pennsylvania no matter the time zone.

Nothing is gained; it is a lateral transfer. The modest gain in the $1.8M ESPN tv contract will be wiped out by poor week night fan attendance. Rather than compose my own words, the words of Nbe more than suffice:

IF invited? Yes
But it seems that with the new crappy ESPN deal, any addition from CUSA 1.0 to CUSA 2.0 just divides an already small pie even further. When you are only getting an extra million more than your competition across the street, you aren't rushing to dilute that.

Um.....Tallgrass. Tulsa will play 2 home games this year during the midweek! That arguement for Tulsa doesn't hold water like some other schools. Also Tulsa is not averaging much now anyway so the affect is minamal when it comes to ticket sales.
You can say that the reduced comeption being in the New CUSA and not playing teams like SMU and Houston will hurt your attendence also. Not sure Tulsa fans will show up to see FIA and Charlotte like they will HOuston Cicncy or SMU.
Tulsa goes no doubt if offered. Since it looks like many of the schools now might not pay and entrance fee or it will be reduced by 1M.

Love how people are still talking as if media markets matter for non-AQs.

Hell I'm not even sure why Aresco was so convinced that they mattered. It's a shame that Tulane got in over S. Miss
