VT signs series with Penn State 2022-2023
http://www.techsideline.com/article/2013...enn-state/
"The Hokies have played just three current members of the Big Ten in program history: Indiana, Michigan and Nebraska. The Hokies have never played Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue or Wisconsin, although dates with Ohio State (2014, 2015), Wisconsin (2019, 2020), Michigan (2020, 2021) and now Penn State are on the future schedule."
We sure are loading up on B10 teams for having never played them much. I was kind of thinking that PSU could be a replacement for the Wisconsin series that got pushed back but that doesn't seem to be the case. So we still have an announcement about their replacement coming soon I guess.
The way we've overlapped the WVU series with Michigan and PSU while also having to pepper in ND makes me think VT is finally changing their scheduling philosophy. In the past it has been 1 FCS, 1 BCS, and two close G5 teams (usually ECU is one).

Why would they sign to play PSU when they are going to be a conference mate soon?
(for those who have missed it VT to the B10 is the latest WVU fantasy)

Well it was stated by those that supposedly know that VT admin prefers the B10 over the SEC. They also prefer the ACC over both so we won't be the first to leave.
There was some mention that the ACC AAU members won't push for VT's inclusion so I suppose things could change if the B1G offered to help in that regard. We are also searching for a new president and soon an athletics director and head coach so who knows if it ends up like a UMD situation where the leadership changed away from the ACC. I think we try to stick with UVA wherever we go though.

The rumor I heard for replacement of the Wisconsin series was Texas A&M.

Generally, when you see someone posting about the AAU in relation to any athletic conference, particularly vis a vie realignment, you can consider the information garbage and the poster to be ignorant.

The first time I saw that VT was close to AAU, I thought, there will be a VT to B1G rumor coming out of this.
Edit : And I hope VT would not entertain any B1G offers because it would be another Missouri to Nebraska play. Court VT, destabilize the conference, get UVA.

I'm seeing A&M in more places. I think you could be right.

RE: VT signs series with Penn State 2022-2023
Will VT ever schedule a WINNABLE non-conference game? I mean, we've played Alabama (this will be 2X), we got Boise St when they were on top, we're catching Ohio St after Urban Meyer has them back on top, and now we're looking at a post-SEC Texas A&M?
I guess they did schedule Wisconsin, but that game was TOO winnable, so the Badgers rescheduled. Typical!

The Big Ten starts a 9 game conference schedule in 2017 and, thus far, each year between then and and 2023, Penn State has one scheduled home and home each year. My guess is that the Pitt series will unfortunately not be played alongside any of these other out of conference games since Penn State will probably want 7 home games. That means playing Pitt from 2016-2019, Syracuse in 2020-2021 and Virginia Tech in 2022-2023. My guess is you see another 2 or 4 game Pitt series after that.

We swept Nebraska and A&M and split the series with LSU.
We were in the game or leading in the 4th quarter against Boise, Alabama, and USC.
These games are winnable. We just have to execute.

I stand corrected. Winnable - yes. Wins - not recently.
I'm just tired of losing OOC; bad for national perception.

Sounds about right. I think the fans of both schools (and Eastern Football) would like Pitt - Penn State to resume as an annual affair or as close to it as possible. On the other hand, I don't think the schools have an interest in it being an annual affair. I think they're more comfortable with a 4 to 6 times a decade situation or even 2 years on, 2 years off.
