This address answers my question. Have a problem with just sticking the Tigers name on a generic product. Especially BBQ related.

This thread should be moved anyway since it is NOT officially Tiger related but a commercial ad.

The OP stated that permission was given for Andy to post this here. For all of the whining about a lack of Tiger merch., this should be welcomed.

There are threads on this forum every week about Tiger logo goods, where to get them, how much they cost, etc. Tons of things about apparel, tents, chairs, garden stones, etc. How is one about Tiger logo sauces any different?

As for being a generic product, this manufacturer makes some of the best sauces anywhere. They have won tons of industry awards. Everything any of us has tried so far is absolutely delicious.

They are the only manufacturer to hold a collegiate license for sauces. There are 357 Div. 1 schools, including 127 football schools. This company holds the license for about 56 of them. The others have not been deemed potentially profitable enough to even get labels approved and printed. It costs from a few hundred to $20K just to buy the license for each school, and thousands more to hire a graphics artist to design the labels (every product for every school requires a different design, due to different bottle sizes and shapes, and logos).

From a business standpoint, it makes no sense to have a different sauce for every school. They make about 30 products, so that would be 30 x 56, or 1680 different formulas to manage for minimum batch size runs, shelf life, minimum order size, etc. That would be financial suicide.

Beyond that, they have spent decades refining and perfecting each formula, so why would they make 56 different ones of each product? Most BBQ sauces for example, are either tomato based or mustard based, with vinegar and a few similar herbs and spices in varying amounts. And once you made a few, they would become somewhat redundant, anyway.

And if not, some would be much better, then those schools who didn't get the best sauces would complain. Just a complete non-starter.

Not a sauce question, which I'm trying to limit this thread to, but it applies to pricing, so I'll answer once for almost all cases.

1. I did a quick search online. Venison prices run from about $7.50 to $38 a pound, depending on the type of cut and amount of purchase, so that price doesn't seem out of line.

2. All online prices aren't the same. You have to check out and see the shipping/handling before you know which is really a better deal, or not, even for the same cut and amount.

3. Venison on the retail market varies greatly in taste and quality. The type I'm selling is farm raised New Zealand Cervena Venison, widely known in the industry as the gold standard for processing standards, taste and genetic qualities associated with low fat and cholesterol.

4. My business model is not to be the Walmart of online products, with the lowest prices. I instead tried to choose suppliers that offered the best available goods for a reasonable price, and with meats and sauces, the best tasting, and the best for you from a health standpoint. Almost all are not available in your local grocery store, and, with the game and exotic meats, are a treat to be enjoyed occasionally with friends and family, so price is not the first consideration. Even then, I have very thin margins, so I'm certainly not gouging anybody. With meat in particular, you generally get what you pay for.

03-lmfao Actually, not for guys only. Guys usually do the grilling, but guys and gals both do the eating. Even the home parties are not limited to guys.

One of my taste testers was female, and she was just as enthusiastic about these sauces as the guys. :)

No. I like the idea, since all game meat is much better for you, and tastes terrific when processed correctly, but I haven't yet found a supplier with good quality and prices, and a year round supply.

Not sure. Probably not, but I'm working out a deal to make it available locally. Very soon. Also, sometime early next week, you'll be able to buy them online at my website.

(11-07-2013 09:44 AM)TripleA Wrote:  I'm in the process of starting a new company that sponsors home grilling parties for guys. Think Tupperware or Mary Kay home parties, but centered around grilling exotic/game meats in the backyard or at tailgates. And done by guys.

We also sell all kinds of sauces, grills and grilling accessories.

As part of that effort, I have a deal with a large sauce manufacturer, that holds the collegiate license for sauces, to supply my sauces. As usual with many manufacturers of collegiate items, they did not carry Memphis Tigers products.

However, I managed to convince them to get the license for Memphis, and they agreed to do so, as long as I sell a minimum amount each year of Memphis Tigers products.

The first shipment is now in Memphis, and I will have them available for sale this Saturday, on Tiger Lane, in location A-49.

If you are interested, please drop by and take a look, and pick up a few.

They are great as souvenirs, or as Christmas or birthday presents. They are competitively priced with other gourmet sauces and gift sets.

I apologize for not having any pictures up, but the first batch is sitting in Memphis unopened. When I get there, I will take some pics and post them tomorrow.

Meanwhile, you can take a look on my new company website, and get an idea of what they would look like, except with Memphis logos, of course, using the leaping Tiger logo, with the correct brand standard colors, lol.

The website is not quite ready to launch, and you can't buy Memphis sauces there yet, b/c I'm waiting for coding to add Memphis to the list. That should be done by next week. Also, the prices shown there are a little lower than what I'm selling them for Saturday, b/c the shipping is added on later in the purchasing process, online.

http://GuysGrills.com

On the home page, in the bar under the banner, move your cursor over "Sauces," and choose either of the two collegiate categories, to get an idea of what these will look like with Memphis logos on them.

Also, every product they make in the collegiate line is not yet available for Memphis. They let you start with their most popular sauces, and once we prove we'll buy a sufficient amount, they will be willing to add more products with Memphis Tiger logos, such as marinades, dry rubs, steak sauces, etc.

Each label for each product has to be designed separately to fit each bottle shape, and each has to be individually approved by the Collegiate Licensing Company, so there is added expense involved on their part.

My friends and I have already tried most of the sauces, and everything is delicious. This company has won 45 national awards for both taste and packaging.

Below are the products now available:

Memphis TIGERS Hot Sauce (5 oz), $6.25

Memphis TIGERS Picante Salsa, Medium (16 oz), $7.45

Memphis TIGERS BBQ Sauce (16 oz), $7.45

Memphis TIGERS Tailgate Kit, 3-pack Gift Set (Hot Sauce+Salsa+BBQ), $21.15

Memphis TIGERS Snack Pack, 2-pack Gift Set (Hot Sauce+Salsa), $14.50

Memphis TIGERS Snack Pack, 2-pack Gift Set (Hot Sauce+BBQ), $14.50

Shipping already included. No tax needed. You can stop by Saturday and pay by cash or check. I don't have a manual credit card swiper, but you can take the sauces and show me your credit card, and I'll process it when I get back to Atlanta.

If we run out of anything you like, or if you can't make it Saturday but want to buy something, just call my cell at 678-643-8770, and I'll process an order manually for you, until we get the website functioning. I am able to accept Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.

Thanks!

Andy Arnold

P.S. Yes, I have permission to post this here, lol. And I will get Memphis pics up as soon as possible.

Tiger-Bay.

Ha ha just kidding....

Sorry I'm going to miss you this trip, but congrats on the new venture!

Well done, Andy. This will help build pride and identity. The only thing I would change in the label design would be to make the tiger vegas gold instead of orange (see the link in my signature). I hope this endeavor is both enjoyable and profitable for you.
