RE: FAU looks to name new coach by Dec 8th...
USC beat writer Scott Wolf reports Ed Orgeron has applied for FAU's head coaching vacancy.

That was quick. Orgeron informed players he was resigning from USC after the school hired Steve Sarkisian as their head coach. The excellent recruiter obviously wants a head coaching gig somewhere

FAU would be smart to hire him quick. I almost wish Tech would fire Holtz if they could land Orgeron

Debunked for the moment. Still fluid I would imagine.

doubtful he would turn FAU down if asked

FAU would have a successful run until the NCAA came to visit.

Ed can coach. Make fun of him all you want but look at what can do. His recruiting is amazing and his players worship him. I would love him at Tech.

If Orgeron wanted this job, you hire him this second.

USC coaches make $2 million a season. I would think he would want at least half that.

Bruce Feldman tweeted this morning that Eddie Gran is "gaining steam" for the job...whatever that means. He also listed Cristobal, Jeff Brohm, and Tim Brewster as other candidates. From that list, looks like Chun's #1 priority is South Florida recruiting, which is a good thing to focus on.

Why not exactly? I think Cristobal would be a fine choice, personally. Great recruiter, well respected in South Florida, and I'm sure that he would love to stick it to FIU. A year under Saban can't hurt either. He's got some knocks against him...not a known as a great game day coach...but he's going to get another head job at some point. I think FAU could do much worse.

Eddie Gran was on our list as well.

He's been close on a few jobs the last few years. IMO, He just needed coordinator experience. He's known as one of the best South Florida recruiters around, so he'd make a pretty good choice down here.

The only problem with Eddie Gran is that we would spend the next 2 years retooling for Eddie Gran pro style offense with no guarantee that he would stay for the long term or we are just a stepping stone to a better job.

Gran or Brohm would be much better options if they go the assistant route/offense over keeping Wright. Too bad the school can't pony up to get a guy like Orgeron . At some point the program is going to have to do this if they ever want to elevate up the mid major chain.

FAU looks to name new coach by Dec 8th...
Scott Van Pelt just talked down the FAU job on national radio when discussing the Orgeron from USC. He still thinks it's a Sun Belt job.
