If I'm not mistaken. A team from Texas has never won in Huntington. It's not happening this year. Sorry Rice, revenge will be sweet.

True, at least from what I can find. What do you think the reason for that is? The long trip? The cold November weather? The LSU-esque attendance 05-stirthepot?

It's the travel and the weather if it's a late season game.

I know Rice will still be good this year, but there's no denying that you guys lost a ton of players, 5th year seniors at that. You lost more starts, by a wide margin, than anyone else in the conference.

I hope the Marshall-Rice game is as important in November as we think now.

Looks like we've lost up there twice: by 13 in 2007 and by 4 in 2011. Two bad Rice teams that were 3-9 and 4-8, respectively.

We will probably lose a game, maybe even two, but one of them won't be on Black Friday, at home, on senior day where Doc has never lost a November game.

Wow 4 whole seasons! a total of 6 game 5 vs teams with losing records 1-11, 4-8, 5-7, 4-8, 5-7. World beaters! I hope that defense improved because Marshall gives up a boat load of points....

Well, Houston, as a former conference mate certainly is in there...

Probably a couple UTEP, SMU, and Houston games plus the UTSA last year. It is an impressive statistic regardless, better than no C-USA football team from North Carolina has ever won at Rice.

WKU gave up more points per game than Marshall last year, but don't worry. Marshall's defense will be improved.

Actually, Doc is 16-5 in all games played after October 28th since becoming head coach and 10-0 at home in that category.

Marshall is 2-0 against Rice, 2-0 against Houston, 2-0 against SMU, 2-0 against UTEP, 1-0 against UTSA and 1-0 against UNT at home. Tulsa is the only west division CUSA team ever to win in Huntington since we joined the conference. They did it two times, by 3 in 2008 and by 7 in 2012. Both those years they were the west champs, won in all in 2012, and we were a sub .500 team.

This year is looking like it could be similar to 1999. We went 12-0 against a not great schedule, but we were dominant. We out scored opponents 442-134 in those 12 games and only had 2 games within one score (at Clemson and against WMU in the MACC game). Everyone thought we were overrated then we beat top 25 BYU in a bowl 21-3 and it really wasn't that close. We held BYU to -16 yards rushing and 202 total yards. BYU was averaging 30 ppg.

The point is, you can play a bad schedule and still be a very good team. I don't think we'll go undefeated, but if we do, and do it in impressive fashion, we'll be fine.

I don't see any way we have a loss. It'd take a monumental fxck up to lose a single game on our schedule.
How about to the team that beat you 41-24 last season? Sure, you've got a good shot against us, especially in your own place, but "Monumental fxck up" it would not be to lose to the Owls.

That WAS a monumental fxck up!

So now it shifts to Oct 28th instead of Nov and at home.

But it doesn't matter I love it when people grantee wins...makes beating them so much better

Thanks for the info, Banker. I wonder why Doc is only 6-5 on the road after Oct. 28, but that is moot in this case.

I always get a kick out of trends and records like this. You see them a lot at Bowl time, things like "West Central State is 6-0 all time against Nerdly Tech, the last meeting in 1938." Heck, Rice is 3-0 all time against Alabama. For real. Maybe we need to schedule Alabama more, since it is a lock. The record speaks for itself.

I am sure Huntington in November is a tough place to play. Cato is certainly a great QB. But streaks are made to be broken, so let's see how it all works out then.

RE: G5 Blogger on Marshall's Access Bowl chances
Marshall winning at home isn't something new, or a trend, it's really just the way it is. We started playing in our current stadium in 1991. Since that time we are 118-19 in home games, an .886 winning percentage. That's the best in FBS football. We have averaged less than one home loss per year over a 23 year span.

To make it even more conference relevant, we are 26-3 at home against teams that will be in CUSA for the 2014 season. That record was during the worst period in Marshall football since the 70s with the exception of last season and playoff games we won against WKU and MTSU back in the 90s.

Why ignore our other 7 games? You know, the seven bowl eligible teams we played. We gave up more than 30 points 4 times. We gave up about the same number of points as WKU, problem for you is we scored 220 more points than you did. At home only ECU scored more than 14 points against us and it took them playing their first string to the end of a blowout, against our third team defense, to do that.
