There are only 2 schools in the G5 that add enough value to a P5 conference to warrant expansion, Brigham Young and Connecticut. Connecticut is only accessible to the Big 10 and ACC. They aren't AAU and have enemies in the ACC. Brigham Young is accessible to the PAC and the Big 12. Issues with the leadership of B.Y.U. has proven to be an obstacle to both the Big 12 and PAC.

So to answer your question of the options out there without raiding another P5 conference the Big 10 would be more likely to take Connecticut than the PAC or Big 12 would be to take B.Y.U. and the Big 10 is not likely to take UConn before Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas are off the table in their minds, or before they are certain that their economic advantage can't be leveraged to land another ACC target.

The SEC won't strike a blow against the ACC. ESPN wouldn't pay for it unless it was part of a much grander plan for both the SEC and ACC and was by some kind of mutual consent.

The Big 12 won't expand because it doesn't earn them money.
The PAC won't expand because it doesn't earn them money.

So everyone waits. I think the most likely P5 school to make a move will be the Big 10 near the end of the GOR's (that is if everything within the NCAA goes as the P5 think). If the autonomy issue becomes a stumbling block and there is a breakaway (not that likely) then movement could happen sooner and by any one of the P5 conferences.

I agree with you and Wedge. No CR movement for a long time. Too many moving pieces and divergent interests.

Me too. After all this time, I have to believe that if there were a compelling case to make for more realignment, somebody of substance would have made it by now. Instead, all we have are convoluted internet scenarios that require that we buy into the notion that all the decision makers at many of the most powerful universities in the country are little more than puppets willing to have their strings pulled by ESPN.

As the hackneyed expression goes, "Well we have established what they are (with the previous round of realignment). Now we are just haggling over the price."

No thank you to the directional Florida schools. I'd even rather have UConn over them....

Only, UConn, Cincinnati, or a combination of Navy football only and Georgetown all sports accept football would be considered from this group for future ACC expansion. 07-coffee3

You can take UConn out, and most likely the Navy/Georgetown combination as neither scenario brings enough to the table to up the payout enough to get the votes.

face it people, the ACC can't replace Maryland. Even with two Universities. That is territory lost. Forever.

Then ACC expansion is over, because Texas and PSU are never joining the ACC! 07-coffee3

Forever is a mighty long time. I wouldn't go that far. Shoot, I remember when folks would say the ACC would never consider a school like UofL. But look at us now. Somewhere down the road a DC area team may become a good fit for the ACC. Who knows, 25 years from now it could be G'town.

Cincinnati would get Ohio money for an ACC Channel. BTN/ ACC programming could bring in many new fans in a Big State with 3 Major cities and some very large Midsize Cities.
