I'm not so sure about Wake remaining in the ACC if they were to drop football. Some members might like to see that spot go to a full member. Wake currently only participates in ~2/3 of the sports that the ACC sponsors.
WF would not be kicked out of the league if they dropped football. UNC, NCSU, Duke, UVa, and VT would not vote for that.
I don't think it is a given either way. You list 5 votes for Wake, that leaves 9 opposed. I think one or more of those 5 could be swayed. It would depend on who the potential replacement is and how much money they bring to the table.

RE: Panel discussion at Wake Forest addresses whether football should be banned
I dunno...if we are going to kick someone to the curb wouldn't it make more sense to get rid of the school who hasn't won a football title in 35 years or the basketball tournament in 40? Add in the fact that they are also in the saturated NC market and you have to start to question what value they really bring to the conference.
For comparison Wake's last football title was 8 years ago and last ACC Tournament title was 18 years ago.

RE: Panel discussion at Wake Forest addresses whether football should be banned
What would be the point of keeping wake in all other sports when we would need to add someone in football, and they likely wouldn't come without a full invite? Wake isn't very useful and shouldn't be allowed some nd-like all sports but football deal.

Its funny hearing the football school fans saying a basketball school is worthless. Wake Basketball may have been worthless the past four years, but they still have a good history. Its not like Wake Forest Basketball is anything close to a long time bottom feeder.
Wake Forest isn't the problem with the ACC. Its the constant under acheiving of the "football schools"
On paper, the ACC should be a good football conference with Clemson, FSU, Miami, VT, GT and Louisville. BC is also usually competitive.

We are all over on the Sun Belt board getting familiar with our soon-to-be conference mates.

So in this hypothetical scenario that others brought up, where wake drops football, why should they remain in the acc with a Notre dame-like deal?
*In an over saturated state.
*Smallest school (and in turn, tv draw?) in the conference.
*Conference would need to find a football replacement (most likely requiring an all sport invite)
Seems to me Cincinnati or uconn (probably the lowest of the acc's targets) would be substantial upgrades, right NOW, let alone if wake dropped football. New markets, better products, better ratings. Win, win, win.
No?

Ok, so we are back to the conference struggles being the football school's fault now?
So hard to tell with the way you basketball school fans change your opinion so often.

Yeah it's such a welcoming place here. As one Johnny Come Lately after another plots to throw out a founding member.

The ACC would take care of Wake based on loyalty alone.
However, I wouldn't see it as a problem if the conference added Cincinnati to get to 14 full members and 16 basketball members (counting Notre Dame and Wake Forest). That creates a basketball schedule with 3 home & home games, 6 away-only and 6 home-only each season.
As compensation, Wake could get Duke, UNC and NC State every year. If someone wants to toss in a couple of football games every year, I'd have no problem with that either.
However, once again, this isn't likely to ever happen.

It's not going to happen period.
We can keep spitballing asinine scenarios if you wish.
What if the ACC paid Wake's portion of the TV money to Wake's alumni instead of the school itself on the condition they forced the school to drop its sports programs?
Maybe the other ACC schools could just not show up for any of their games against Wake until Wake got the hint just left on their own.

If boxing, wrestling, soccer, cheerleading and lacrosse, which all have high concussion rates, aren't being banned, why would football be an exception.

No we need our extra Wake Forest bye week to get healthy and study up for real games.. I know our Wake Bye came at a crucial time, we had a lot of injuries to start the season and freshmen playing major minutes. Without a Wake bye week we would have had a lot more trouble. I am sure the other coastal division members agree how helpful that break is..

Perhaps VT should ban football... seems like they've already banned scoring.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread if you are wanting to eliminate duplication in the NC market then you need to get rid of the weak link. Wake isn't the weak link out of the little four.
