Illinois did win the stats battle but moving the ball up and down the field doesn't count for much if the defense holds you out of the end zone. Maybe read up on football a little, ben.

is it true, did beating Illinois change the national perception of a CUSA team? Herd fans said it was a certainty.

If you're beating a Big 10 team that's not Ohio State, Wisconsin, or Michigan State is it really any different than beating a MAC team.

No, you get to call Illinois home, the state that gave this country the worst f'n President this country has ever had. Also Benny boy, when the game is over, it is the scoreboard that matters. I know in the world of Obamaland, something as realistic as a scoreboard is a concept that you can't grasp, but your team got it's ass whipped today. So quit being a tool and just leave.

Chicago is one of the top 10 cities in the world.. fact!

New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Rome, Sydney, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Prague...Chicago. Which one of the above doesn't fit?

It honestly should be the champion's bowl except in years when the Independence Bowl is available. From what I just looked up, CUSA is locked in for the next 4 years with the Big 12 and Big Ten alternating as the opponent. I get that various circumstances are different every year, but playing in the Cotton Bowl vs. a Ten or XII is too good a deal to be a consolation prize.

Problem is, the HOD Bowl really depends on the participating teams to travel in big numbers. Unlike the Independence Bowl and some other bowls, the HOD has very little "local" (annual season ticket holders) support. So that means the best CUSA representative will likely be the CUSA WEST champion. I just don't think anybody from the east can travel in the kind of numbers that the HOD bowl needs. Of the 31,279 in attendance today, LA Tech traveled 22K. From CUSA, only LA Tech, UNT, UTSA and maybe UTEP can deliver those kind of attendance numbers.

This is but one Herd fan who believes that one game will never change the perception of the conference. That takes NOTHING away from LaTech's win...be proud and loud!. But it's going to take scheduling a LOT of games with the lower 40 of the P5, and winning them consistently, for perception to change. That's a tall order in and of itself.

Personally, I think our drubbing of (12-1) Northern Illinois, is in the same class as LaTech's win over (6-6) Illinois. But that's just me.

Prague, actually. Chicago has consistently been an alpha+ global city for several decades (2012 withstanding). Speculation is that the 2014 ratings will once again include Chicago as an alpha+. chicago might not appear to be as glamorous as those other cities listed (to the uneducated) but it is no doubt one of the 10-15 most important cities on the planet.

It's not just you. Of the two Illinois teams, which one was in a BCS bowl last??? The NIU game was just as big ass ass win over Boise or any lower tier P5 school.

We get that, and please forgive MY ignorance, but why would an Illinois STATE fan ever defend/espouse/lead the cheer for the University of Illinois? Aren't y'all competing state universities?

If you're one of THOSE type of fanbases (little d*ck syndrome, meaning you have to cheer for the big school cause yours isn't big enough, or quite good enough for your loyalty) commentary knocking us or any non-P5 school is immediately discredited anyway. When we have some of our own who do such disgusting things, we chastise them too...so don't think I'm slamming just the ISU group.

RE: Heart of Dallas Bowl: Louisiana Tech vs Illinois
Personally, I think the NIU game was more important because at one time NIU was being talked about being an Access Bowl team. Good thing they didn't get to represent the Great Group of Five and then flounder on the field. Marshall did it and proved that they should have been the representatives. Oh, how I would have liked to see Marshall and Boise get at it on the field.

LaTech had me worried at one time. I'm glad that they got their act together and changed the O play calling. They didn't sit on their hands like Western and almost lose. It's hard to feel good about losing a 34 point lead but at least they won. Wonderful did a wonderful job in the last play. He's the one that turned around the game against us with that interception that our less than wonderful QB threw to him.

The problem is the national media never says "well how many MAC teams did they beat" They always ask how you did against P5 competition. And this didn't just start happening this year with the playoff committee. It has been this way for years. Beating a mediocre Big Ten team will almost always get you more respect than beating a MAC team - even a good MAC team.

Exactly what I said in my post. We have to play the Mac and Sunbelt equivalents of the Cabal.

After the game junior RB Kenneth Dixon (LA Tech's all-time leading scorer and rushing yardage leader) announced that he will be returning for his senior season.

In 2015 LA Tech will be loaded at RB depth like never before!

Jared Craft is a true freshman and he had a good game against Illinois. Had 5 TD a this year and a couple hundred yards. We are looking really good for next year as we only lose 11 seniors.
