Well he was listed at 6'6... Probably closer to 6'5, maybe even a little under.

Hicks was 6"4 3/4 when measured for the predraft camps. Miraculously shrank from 6-6" or 6'7" while at UC.

I hope he's working on his game, I can't see a 6'6 PF having much opportunity to bang in college, much less the next level.

There have been plenty of successful 6'6 PFs in college basketball. If you're super athletic you can be a stud at that size. It's not the norm, but I wouldn't write players off because of that. His dad was what 6'8 and legitimately the best center in college basketball.

Hell, there have been plenty of successful 6'6" or so (and under) PFs at UC. Paging Messrs. Maxiel, Hicks & Fortson...

Not a UC guy, but Chuck Hayes played PF and C in the NBA for 10 years at 6'6"...all about leverage.

Herb Jones says don't you forget about me. Heck, Huggs made a living off of finding undersized (height-wise) PFs.

The round mound of rebound is listed at 6'6", and he made the HOF.

Totally different eras. At 6'6 in today's basketball world you're going to need facing the basket skills to excel. Can you play at that height? Absolutely. Can you compete and excel against top notch teams? Unlikely to consistently happen.

Is there a back to the basket player in today's his world that is the exception that I'm missing?

I took the time to actually watch some lengthy film of the kid, I have no doubt that he could play PF in D1, probably not the NBA but certainly college.
Assuming you ARE talking about the NBA, Draymond Green, Jason Maxiell, Shawn Marion come to mind. I know Maxiell was listed as 6'8 but he wasn't.
You do need to be able to actually shoot and even slash, to be a power forward in the league. From the game footage I've seen of him, he's very athletic and can attack. But he's mostly in a garbage man role. Getting blocks, being the trailer and posterizing people on the break. He has an iffy handle and I've only counted a handful of jump shots(I saw him make a contested 3, he doesn't have a hitch or anything major wrong with his shot).

Chances are that he'd need to work on the handles, jump shot and defense. That last criterion is typical of most kids these days.
What he has going for him is next level athleticism(he can jump out of the gym) and that he's a very long limbed sort of player.
And that's the part of playing the 4 you can't teach.
And as pointed out earlier, he is only 16. He may still grow a couple inches. I remember Ellis came here at 6'8 as a freshman and left 6'10-6'11. Personally, I feel like if Hicks could do well as a PF in his time here, being 6'8 or over isn't really as relevant as we make it out to be.

Anyway, youtube is pretty cool. Kmart's son plays alongside Scottie Pippen Jr. While I was looking, I also came across video of Shareef O'Neal (looks like a one and done, nowhere near as MASSIVE as his father but still) and Dennis Rodman Jr. I never knew there was a baby worm, but he actually looks pretty good at basketball as well.

Max is 6'5 1/2", but he has a super long wingspan that helps.

Have feelings with the Martins changed? Last I heard is that Sr. didn't think it was a great idea for Jr. to come here and live in his shadow. Is that still the case?

Maybe. But if Jr. is able to play at a D1 level, i'd rather we offer him. The martin's will make the best decision possible for the future.

Looks like he's gaining notoriety. We were his only offer for a time and now he has one from Georgetown, as well as the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara.

You know the worst part of that, is they didn't even attempt to make the slug look formidable. Like Youngstown State has a penguin who looks like he'd punch you in junk and run away and South Carolina even made a chicken look like a freakin dragon.
They had a harmless, weak mascot and somehow managed to make it look even more like a dweeb.

Surprised Huggs isn't involved yet unless something has changed between sr and him. Could make for a very interesting recruiting battle.

Joe Pasternack has already landed some quality recruits for UC Santa Barbara and he hasn't even coached a full season yet. Best one so far is a forward named Amadou Sow who was rated 3* by 247 Sports and 4* by ESPN. Had offers from Illinois, Wichita State and Colorado amongst others.

We were also in Logan Johnson's final list before he decided on Cincy. I know, you can't win them all 07-coffee3
