Is there a back to the basket player in today's his world that is the exception that I'm missing?

I took the time to actually watch some lengthy film of the kid, I have no doubt that he could play PF in D1, probably not the NBA but certainly college.
Assuming you ARE talking about the NBA, Draymond Green, Jason Maxiell, Shawn Marion come to mind. I know Maxiell was listed as 6'8 but he wasn't.
You do need to be able to actually shoot and even slash, to be a power forward in the league. From the game footage I've seen of him, he's very athletic and can attack. But he's mostly in a garbage man role. Getting blocks, being the trailer and posterizing people on the break. He has an iffy handle and I've only counted a handful of jump shots(I saw him make a contested 3, he doesn't have a hitch or anything major wrong with his shot).
Chances are that he'd need to work on the handles, jump shot and defense. That last criterion is typical of most kids these days.
What he has going for him is next level athleticism(he can jump out of the gym) and that he's a very long limbed sort of player.
And that's the part of playing the 4 you can't teach.
And as pointed out earlier, he is only 16. He may still grow a couple inches. I remember Ellis came here at 6'8 as a freshman and left 6'10-6'11. Personally, I feel like if Hicks could do well as a PF in his time here, being 6'8 or over isn't really as relevant as we make it out to be.
Anyway, youtube is pretty cool. Kmart's son plays alongside Scottie Pippen Jr. While I was looking, I also came across video of Shareef O'Neal (looks like a one and done, nowhere near as MASSIVE as his father but still) and Dennis Rodman Jr. I never knew there was a baby worm, but he actually looks pretty good at basketball as well.
