Kane being out was bad enough but now with Son out too it was always gonna get ugly.

Hot take: Sell Salah and put it towards Mbappe (if he's interested) or Timo Werner. Salah is too selfish and inconsistent, and his value is at an all-time high right now. Time to cash in.

Yikes...for a Liverpool fan, I'm surprised you'd want to do anything to break up this group, even for the off chance of pulling another player of equal talent. Mbappe is an interesting one though, he has clearly decided he won't be renewing for PSG, and with the fans starting to turn on him, they may be able to get him for a swan.

Yea that's insane to me.

Really hoping Arsenal beat Man City. Would love Liverpool to clinch at Merseyside.

The MLS has suspended this season 04-cheers

How long until the pyramid ponzi scheme collapses?

Hopefully the rest of the leagues worldwide follow suit... 02-13-banana

??? What pyramid are you talking about?

By the way, the MLS has suspended for 30 days, not the season.

Ponzi scheme. my bad.

MLS Ponzi scheme

If MLS isn’t a Ponzi scheme, maybe it’s the WeWork of sports?

Forbes’ annual Major League Soccer revenue and team value analysis is out, and a couple of things are clear from it: One, MLS teams are soaring in value, with several teams being sold all or in part at prices that would value them at more than $400 million. And two, there is no good reason for these prices, as Forbes points out in classic Forbesese:

Those aren’t the sorts of prices a sports banker would arrive at given the financial performance of a typical MLS team. In fact, we estimate that, of the 23 teams that played in 2018, just six turned a profit (and half of those were just barely in the black). Altogether, the league’s teams lost more than $100 million last year. And MLS is losing even more money at the league level—as a single-entity operation, player salaries are paid through the league office—which means team owners are on the hook for a sizable capital call in addition to the red ink in their local markets.

This is the kind of financial picture — soaring team sale prices amid massive annual losses — that had me asking whether the league isn’t effectively a Ponzi scheme, where the league’s bottom line is only being kept afloat by annual infusions of new expansion fees.

Yep, the same as Serie A and La Liga. I believe La Liga is suspended for the next two match weeks, at least for now.

Given that pretty much the entire soccer world has shut down I found this pretty cool.

The La Liga Santander FIFA Challenge. Basically, this is a La Liga permitted EA FIFA charity tournament where each La Liga team has one player represent his team during the Challenge. All monies raised go to help fight the coronavirus The draw was made on Thursday 19 March with six players drawn into pre-qualifiers. The winners will then go into the quarter-finals where they will face the other 13 players who have already been drawn into their matches. The entire Challenge will be streamed on Spanish eports announcer Ibai Llanos’ Twitch channel which you can access by clicking here.

Spurs-West Ham had a Fifa 20 charity derby yesterday. Ryan Sesegnon beat Miguel Antonio 2-0 thanks first half goals by Lucas Moura and Gio Lo Celso.

Looks like RM's Asencio won this. Figures since he's been out for a while injured and had plenty of time to play FIFA, lol.

The English Game on Netflix is pretty good. It tells the story of Fergus Suter and Darwen FC and their rivalry with the Old Etonians. Its not just about soccer but about the fight to make the game for the working classes.

Thanks! I'll check it out.

I stumbled across Barça Dreams on Netflix the other day. IMO, great documentary on the team's history from the beginning n 1899. It's from 2015 though so it cummulates with that year's Treble. The doc has interviews with several first team and club people. The majority is in English; however, the player interviews aren't translated but I was able to get by. Recommend if anyone has any interest.

Don't know if it's on any streaming sites, but I liked The Miracle Match quite a bit as a sports movie goes.

Schalke were top half of the table pre COVID. Wonder if it is in part due to lack of fitness? Dortmund is obviously the better team, so going against them may have not been the best gauge.

Schalke was a championship contender until the Winter break and now they've only have 1 win in 9 games. Something happened to that team that killed their confidence and if it wasn't for COVID, David Wagner would've been fired already.
