We have decent backups behind Wilson but I have a feeling we'll be throwing it more when Wilson is gone.
Yea this is a bold statement. The only teams losing their QB this year is WKU, UTSA and FIU. Stockstill, Erdely, J'Mar Smith, Chase Litton etc will all be back. Not sure you can go ahead and crown Fine already.
Sure there will be some stiff competition but he's already making a case to be the best this year, and if he stays healthy I highly doubt he'll regress. Especially considering he'll keep his core group of skill players his entire career. If Littrell/Harrell leave sooner rather than later than he might be worse, but who knows.
I like Fine's chances better than most

RE: Top CUSA QB?
Here's a fun comparison between Fine and Stockstill looking at Stockstill's sophomore year since they played the same number of games. Brent only played 10 games because of the injury. Same number as Fine so far this year.
Brent
262-for-414 63.3% 3233 yards, 31 TD - 7 INT
Mason
224-for-352 63.6 2812 yards, 22 TD - 9 INT
Freshman numbers not even worth comparing even if Fine had played entire season. Brent over 4K yards as a freshman.

I'm biased, but I'd Erdely. He's not going to wow you with any one thing that he does, but he does everything well. Have to respect him as both a passer and runner, good completion %, makes good decisions, doesn't turn the ball over, leads the league in total TDs.

I wasn't too high on AJ's passing ability at the beginning of the season, but he is finally beginning to click with his receivers... his 20-21 passing vs Rice (new CUSA record) sold me.

I don't think so. Chase is also going into his Senior year next season.
Hopefully a new coordinator can shore up his INT's. Chase has the highest potential with his NFL frame. He's also matured.

Nobody said anything about the NFL. PiKapp's statement is correct. No QB returning next year will put up better numbers than Brent (regardless of who does what in the NFL) all things being equal (i.e. healthy for a full season).

I forgot Stockstill is going to be back. He's scary good.
One thing to consider is the team around the quarterback. I'm not sure what MTSU has but I'd bet they had a much better team around Stockstill when he was a freshman. Mason was playing on a team that was 1-11 the previous year, was playing a bunch of freshmen, and had the receiving corp of a power running team (which is not a good thing for an Air Raid offense). I'm not saying Fine would have had the same stats as Stockstill if their places were reversed as freshmen but Fine would have had better stats.
This season we've seen Fine grow but also the entire offense. Now we're playing a bunch of sophomores along with Fine and they are getting better. Hopefully next season we'll see the offense evolve to being more consistent (right now it can disappear for a quarter at a time). I'm not sure what Stockstill will have around him next year.

Well, Brent will have a bunch of people around him that were hurt this year and all those other guys that got playing time because of all those injuries. Should be fun.
Oh and one of the best tandem receivers in the nation in Richie James and Ty Lee.

Fine is a few yards behind White, but he has 5 more TDs. Also, Fine has won more games than White has (he took a last minute blast against UTSA to win UNT that game.) AJ is a good QB, but I feel he is getting more consideration than he deserves simply because it is UAB’s first season back. You also have to consider the offense these guys are in. UNT is air raid by pretty much name only. Average around 300 yards passing and around 100 yards rushing per game. It’s been a fairly balanced offensive attack. If the staff wanted to they could shift to a much heavier passing attack and then the stats wouldn’t even be close. WKU is only passing (last week they had something like 19 attempts for 36 yards), so White’s stats should be higher. AJ’s system is rushing based so he should have a good TD:INT ratio because that’s what they need him to do. He needs to be a game manager, not a game winner.
Yeah, that whole leading the league in touchdowns is totally misleading.
Just because AJ has twice as many touchdowns as Fine? I mean, Fine has lots more passing yards.
Austin, you do understand that in most rushing based offenses the QB does not have the most rushing TD's on the team, right?

Mason Fine is the best QB in C-USA this season.
He will finish the regular season with the most yards passing and the most passing TD's. That is even more impressive when you also factor in that North Texas has a 1,000 yard rusher in the backfield.

RE: Top CUSA QB?
Mike White is by far the best QB in the conference, but the change in system and crappy OL really hurt him.
As for the award this year, he won't win it. I would vote between Fine or Sturm depending on what they do down the stretch.

A healthy Brent Stockstill is the best college QB in this conference by a fair margin.

Why laugh, I think Gilesfan is right on. Mike is basically the only reason we have done what we have done and he is having to run for his life while doing it. If he had some coaching to help him, his numbers would be off the chart this year

Because Brent is better?
And even if you want to make an argument for White, "by far"?
Fat ******* chance...
