Actually .... with the possible exception of Bowling Green (too low) ... this is about how the league ranks after a couple of weeks ... considering SOS

RE: MAC basketball Pomeroy rankings
Basketball rankings of any sort are completely meaningless this early in the season. There aren't enough connections between teams having played each other to gain a complete picture. There's a ton of movement from game to game as a result. Check back in January when there are way more data points.

Or even better, in March!

While it may be too early for power rankings, in my own personal power rankings I see one definite trend in the MAC this year, it has completely flipped from defense to offense this year.

There's really not that much movement once you get a few games into conference play. Things are pretty solidified by then and movement tends to only be ten to fifteen spots (out of ~350) for each game played.

CMU just won the Great Alaska Shootout with defense. Toledo's defense is better. Buffalo can defend. EMU is still tough to figure, but has big defensive potential. Might be more offense overall this year but not a complete flip.

How are we second highest in the MAC? St Louis U aside, we just continually lose against Div I competition.

Indeed. As I have said many times, the MAC went from a MBB conference to a football conference (case in point: the two New Year's Bowl games in 2013 and 17) over the last say two decades.

THAT'S TODAY .... Lets check back at Christmas break, after MAC teams (OK, not Central Michigan) have played much tougher competition, and see where these same teams stand ... Evansville, Old Dominion, Oakland, Syracuse, Xavier, Oregon State among others ... not predicting a lot of wins, mind you, but maybe a few to move the needle for a couple of teams like Buffalo, Ball State, WMU.

Not that CMU is phenomenal but at 6-1 with our only loss to Michigan by 7 on the road, kinda weird to see us 3rd from the bottom.

RE: MAC basketball Pomeroy rankings
No one is expecting Miami to be some juggernaut this year with all the freshman we're starting, yet despite that we already look worlds better than we were under Cooper. Our 5-3 record hasn't been against very good competition but under the former regime we'd be 2-6, you can tell Owens is coaching up the kids a lot from the recent past.

oh I'm just joshing with ya. it's way too early to read anything into these ratings, but I guess they are interesting to a point. it's interesting how one has Miami at the bottom of the barrel and the other has a very different view. only time will tell!
