Was sure nice to see USF beat Texas tech
It will be really nice to see UCF beat Auburn

If we've learned anything, it's that nothing is certain during bowl season.

Yup. Lol...nothing new there—I’ve had no idea what to expect week to week from my Coogs all season.

Yep, Houston just pounded Fresno. You must be the typical myopic AAC fan so frequently found on this board. The MW is at least the equal of the AAC.

Yeah. One bowl game tells us this.

Yeah. One bowl game tells us this.
No it does not. It does tells us that AAC posters on here should wait till games are over before bragging about a beat down.

RE: Conference bowl records
The OP is a striking reminder of a key difference between the G5 and the P5: timing of bowl games.
As of Christmas day, 25 G5 teams have played bowl games, P5 teams have played a whopping ... 2 bowl games.
Going forward, the G5 have 7 teams left to play bowl games, the P5 have 42 teams left to play bowl games.
G5: 25 down, 7 to go
P5: 2 down, 42 to go
In the old days, a key distinguishing bowl issue was whether you were playing on New Year's Day or not. When it comes to G5 vs P5, it's whether you're playing before or after Christmas.

Look for the disparity to become even greater in the 2020-2026 time frame.

RE: Conference bowl records
Some of the 6-6 P5 games after Christmas loses the interests of casual fans as the games get less viewers than several G5 top teams that played before Christmas. I would like to see some tweaks where the 6-6 P5 teams play before Christmas while the winning g5 programs that do draw viewers get some of those slots. Sometimes fans of a 6-6 P5 teams will not travel since they are not even excited about their team lack of success in the season.

RE: Conference bowl records
To look at the glass as half full, the G5 schools have had the stage to themselves until now, and haven't had to compete with the P5 for eyeballs. That might not have been a competition that would work in the G5's favor.
And IMO there have been some pretty entertaining games, and this is all about entertainment.

Bowl games are TV events, not designed for fans or fan support. Many P5 6-6 teams will still draw better than most G5 winning teams just due to better Conference and Name Recognition. As long as Tie-Ins for conferences exist, the power conferences will always win out.
Don't get me wrong, I miss the days of Bowls having at large bids but those days appear long gone. Also, having only about 20 - 25 bowl games.

"Always" wasn't the best choice of words, especially when you live in a glass house. "Usually", yes. "Always", hardly.
Case in point, that mega ACC-SEC matchup at #37 after Christmas

Good points. The vast majority of high-rated bowl games come after Christmas, and no question, all bowls would much rather affiliate with the P5 conferences, so they will have the better, post-Christmas tie-ins, a lot more money going to even their 6-6 teams than go to the best G5 teams.

N.C. State Vs Vanderbilt game was #37 with 1.27 million viewers. This was December 26th. A day after Christmas. This was last year.

Yep. I get the name brand schools will draw well regardless of their records. However, this just goes to show that a match up of 2 bottom half P5 dwellers can and will struggle in the ratings dept.

Right, but it's also true that the 15 highest-rated bowl matchups last year were all post-Christmas, and all but one of those were P5 vs P5 (the one exception was the P5 vs G5 NY6 Access game), and 20 of the first 21 were. IOW's, of the top 20 highest rated bowls, exactly one was a pre-Christmas G5 vs G5 game.
So if it makes you feel better that it's only true that that overwhelming majority, and not literally 100%, of the 20 highest-rated bowl games are post-Christmas P5 vs P5, and that yes, there are examples of pre-Christmas G5 bowls having higher ratings than some post-Christmas P5 bowls, then, well, revel in that fact i guess.

It does depend on if two brand names G5 schools with winning records takes on each other before Christmas are the ones usually do garner a lot of viewers. Sadly, they matched good teams against the worst teams recently.

True, but then again, 'brand name' G5 are very scarce. Boise? BYU as an honorary G5? Navy brings some patriotic cachet? And even those are minor brands.

RE: Conference bowl records
The problem is that everyone in the G5 gets hypnotized by a P5 matchup, even if the team is a crappy 6-6 P5 team. The great G5 teams are taken by these weak P5 games, which leaves a bunch of games between mediocre G5 teams. Not much draw power for ratings. I bet you a USF-Boise game would have had better ratings than the Boise-Oregon game. Likewise for FAU-Boise or FAU-SDSU or USF-FAU or USF-SDSU.
Problem is that its a double edged sword. You do that and you are facilitating a break with the P5.
