03-lmfao I was thinking just that. +2

Tech had the benefit of many horseshit calls in the first half. I thought that one ref was gonna get jumped on the way off the court at halftime.
Where are you coming up with this nonsense about officiating. We were called for 16 fouls and Tech was called for 20, the officiating wasn't bad and we certainly got our share of the close calls.

I'm not complaining about the fouls, just pointing out that this game couldn't be blamed on Tech being picked on by the refs. But, if you were there, you would have seen in the first half that we got some bad fouls on no contact made. The whole arena was booing most of the first half and the replays confirmed no contact. One call was so completely wrong it cost us a technical and they got 4 shots, we got no warning. He called the T because the whole crowd was booing him if I had to guess.

Number of fouls doesn't mean anything. You can see what is horseshit and so can 5000 other people. It was just one ref, mostly, that decided the game was all about him. Wasn't just fouls, but also possessions etc. He was just bad.

We know Saturday refs suck, anyway, because all the good ones are making bank doing P5 games on Saturday. They even called a bull**** double foul because they were too inept to make a judgement and as Herdmeister pointed out at the game once a foul is called play stops, how can there be a second foul?
Has to be simultaneously committed..such as a hook and a shove

Furthermore, the officials talk to the players during play. Usually they hear and acknowledge...evidently not this time

Thursday's game against NT will be the real test.

When I saw Last Saturday’s halftime score, I thought of Charlotte: ‘Hey, here’s a team we can beat!’
I’ve got UNT as a solid favorite against them. But it will be interesting whether their talent can come together against Rice. And whether Rice can get their first conf win.

What I saw in Charlotte was a dilapidated race car in serious need of a tune up. Any team with talented big men should be able to wear down Charlotte this season. But the 49ers have the quickness and speed to compete against teams that opt to run against them. And if their interim coach can manage to get their players all working together, they will be dangerous.

If Charlotte’s a race car then we might be “The Little Engine That Could”. We play hard, we’re fairly decent on defense, we move the ball, and find the open man. Who then usually misses. We’ll still try to wear down the 49ers even though we don’t have ‘dominant’ size on the roster. “We think we can, we think we can” get to five wins and make the tourney. We’re also 0-2 in close games so we need to find a way to win one of those, at home against Charlotte might be our next best chance for that.

Oh and I know we’ve got ODU at home Thursday. Rice-ODU have had some great games recently and I expect that to continue... (but probably not until next season!)

You guys deserved the win, and we definitely didn't. That block you had in the last 12 seconds was HUGE, and then we missed a layup at the end, and it was over. Two tough wins for you guys on the road to start your conference schedule. Your team is looking just like your football team this year so far. Hopefully we'll return the favor in Denton on March 1st.

It was a good game last night. I think we played each other pretty even. March 1st will come down to which team improves more over the next two months, or which team suffers the fewest injuries.

On a side note... UTSA needs a better basketball arena. Are y'all planning any facility upgrades?

Agreed on what you said about our next meeting.

About the arena, believe me, we've been bitching about our arena for a long time now...lol. Our baseball field is worse though. Our new AD has said that one of her main goals was facilities, and I hope she's not just paying lip service because it's long overdue. Nothing is in the works right now though, to my knowledge. The Convo is an eyesore for nearly all UTSA faithful, and we'll jump for joy when the day comes that we finally get a real arena for our basketball and volleyball teams.

Watching the game last night, it seemed like the UTSA fans really hate North Texas. Are they like that all the time, or do they have a little extra hate for us?

I don't know whether you were at the arena or watched it on TV, but most of the chants and yelling directed at UNT or the refs were by our band, and that's pretty typical. I would say there's a bit more disdain for UNT than there is for many other schools, and that apparently goes back to the first time we played each other in football. Your fans pointed at us for what we were doing, and our fans were blaming your fans, and there's really no telling what truly started it all. Personally, I had no issues with any of your fans in the 3 trips I've made to Denton for our football games up there.

I have a feeling that many of the fans who like to heckle others at games are some of the same ones who like to mix it up with people on social networking sites. All the animosity some seem to have for other fan bases just isn't something I wanna get involved with. I don't get any enjoyment from it. I have a 7-year-old daughter, and even if she isn't with me at games, I'd rather carry myself like the kind of adult I'd like her to become, because there are people who just take it too far.

I know some of the early animosity can probably be attributed to me. Back in early 2010, when UTSA was first being mentioned as an addition to the WAC, I was active on their board, and openly campaigning for the WAC not to invite UTSA or Texas State. I personally had nothing against either program, just felt it was in the best interest of North Texas that Texas not add two more FBS programs. Of course UTSA and Texas State fans showed up on the WAC board and didn't care much for a North Texas fan talking down their programs. Believe me, they were very clear about their dislike of me and North Texas. I'm sure some of the older UTSA posters from back then would remember it. How the games have played out has only fanned the flames.

Wishing loses on each other, and watching the students boo each other's team is fine. Even a decent amount of message board trash talking is okay. That's sports in Texas. But, I agree some do take it too far.
