That is a fallacy...

Tubby was hired to win...And some thought it was a perfect match of local talent to help his poor recruiting and coaching acumen.

Turns out Josh actually did some work to land these local guys...They didn't just show up.

Oh I agree with you that it’s a fallacy. It’s an ridiculous assertion

I absolutely agree with you that that was not said to Tubby when he was hired nor did I say it was. I said that that was a part of the decision on why the administration "wanted" to hire him. I also said they expect him to get back to the NCAAs while raising the reputation of the program on multiple fronts.

I apologize then, I thought you said Tubby was brought here to run a clean program and get us back to the tournament and then the next guy they hire will get us further. I don’t feel like looking back right now but someone said exactly that which is crazy. Yes the admin wanted a coach who was clean, most do. But I’m sure they also expected him to win big as well. I can’t inagine them being just happen w getting us back to a tournament.

I did say that. They just did not put it that way to Tubby. That is what I was clarifying.

Also, don't kid yourself about most admins and boosters caring about a "clean" program. They care about a "dont get caught" program. Unfortunately, at the time of the hire, we needed more than that.

3. 8th place per RPI (now up to #95)
4. 9th place per Sagarin (#133)
5. 9th place per Massey Index (#125) (Edit - actually 8th)

We are 39% into the conference schedule and actual results are outperforming the metrics. It remains to be seen if the metrics are wrong, lag, or will prove correct.

As an aside, the notice has circulated lately that the AAC is a weaker league than expected. It maybe true in terms of NCAA bids (TBD), but at the moment Massey shows the AAC as the 7th best D-1 conference.

1. 4th in standings

3. 7th place per RPI (now up to #86)
4. 8th place per Sagarin (#119)

1. Tied with 2 other teams for 3rd placement in standings
2. 9th place per KenPom (#152)

4. 8th place per Sagarin (#121)

4. 9th place per Sagarin (#133)

ESPN BPI Rating for five seasons:

2013-14 #35
2014-15 #71
2015-16 #59
2016-17 #116
2017-18 (to date) #166

Please note I choose ESPN BPI ratings because it is a recognized metric and it was easy to obtain. The ESPN BPI ratings are not available for 2012-13 or earlier.

Our conference is a cluster except for the top 2 (possibly 3) and bottom 2.

Tomorrow, there should be a little reshuffling.

We should go to 6-4. ECU 2-9

Cincy should go to 10-0. UConn 4-6

But the Houston UCF game is anybody's guess.

Haha.

From July:

http://csnbbs.com/thread-821636-post-144...id14439641

There is a clear Tier 1 of WSU and Cinci.

UCF is a low Tier 2.

I see Tier 3(a) as SMU, Tulsa and Houston although I'm banking more on SMU's rep than what they might have on the roster.

Tier 3(b) is Memphis, UConn, and Temple. UConn made it close to 7th with a late addition from the JUCO ranks.

There is no Tier 4.

Tier 5 is Tulane, ECU, and USF.

I would give 1.5 and take Houston. They are the 3rd best team in the league and it's not close.

RE: Where We Stand (Updated 2/1/18)
According to KP Predictor as of this writing, below is the predicted margin at a neutral court for State of Tenn D-1 schools against Memphis:

1. UTC +8
2. UT Martin +8
3. Tn Tech +5
4. Tn State +4
5. APSU +2
6. Lipscomb +1
7. Vandy - 4
8. Belmont - 6
9. ETSU - 6
10. MTSU -9
11. UTK - 15

Away games at Lipscomb and APSU are predicted defeats and TSU a toss up against Memphis.

A home game against Vandy is predicted a toss up.
