Good game ODU. That was an intense game with a lot of tough defense.

Too many weapons. We couldn't defend 'em all.
Good game, MTSU.

ODU lacks enough weapons on offense. They need another pure shooter to get them over the hump IMHO.

If MT wins at Charlotte on Saturday, 5 of our last 7 games are at home

The be the man you have to beat the man.
We folded late and all credit to MTSU on the win. That team was long, rebounded extremely well, and consistently moved the scoreboard with tough shots.
We did not play well enough to earn the right to beat you (and you had much to do with that), so this horrible streak continues. Best of luck until the tournament.

MTSU was just tougher last night. I don't say this as a criticism, as it is grown men playing hoops, but MTSU did an awesome job of moving our bigs off their spot all night long. Every time a shot when up, they pushed, pulled jerseys, and did whatever they had to do to get position. Heck, on one fast break we had, after Porter and two Blue Raiders hit the floor, one of MTSU's player's was smart enough to literally grab and hold Porter's ankle so he couldn't run down the court. Especially in the first half, our guys kept looking to the refs rather than sucking it up and getting tougher. MTSU made the plays down the stretch. They have the winning culture we are trying to establish. My hats off to them, but I do think we showed that we are and will be right there come CUSA tourney time to be a real threat to win it in Frisco.

This. We have several streaky shooters, but seriously need a consistent scorer and 3 point shooter.
We have a shooter on the bench, Huett Jr. He's a freshman and Jones won't play anybody who isn't Defense first. That's been our biggest problem since the BT era. Always tough on D, offense always sketchy.

Your offense was not sketchy when you had Trey Freeman lighting us up for 40 few seasons ago...

This is what makes Davis such a good coach. Our best perimeter defender is Simpson. He was and has been a starter most of his career; however, we've struggled scoring from the guard position, and our best scorer off the bench at the 2 was Johnson but he's not as good of a defender as Simpson. So, Kermit decided to infuse more offense and has been starting Johnson over the past four or five games. He has the ability to be an elite scorer as he demonstrated last night as well as the NCAA Tourney last year. But it's a team game and even with Johnson getting more minutes the defense has gotten better, because when you play defense as a team and communicate you can defend at an elite level. And with more time on the floor Johnson is getting better defensively.
If you guys have a shooter who is riding pine, because of defense he will easily make up for it. That's just bad personnel management. If he's sitting because he's a freshman and likely will hurt the team by making a lot of rookie mistakes that's a different story.

Defense is only part of it. Strength is another piece. Hueitt is probably 160 pounds soaking wet. I'm afraid your guards would have literally eaten him last night, thinking he was a granola bar. I would have loved to see him last night (mostly because he's my son's favorite player), but I understand why it might not have been a good match-up for him. He'll get there.

I've been watching college hoops far too long, buddy. In recent years, I've seen us beat Michigan State, and I've seen us lose to Houston Baptist, when they were the worst-RPI team in the nation. I saw a great MT team last year lose at UTEP.
Charlotte has athletes. I have not been able to figure out why you guys don't get more wins (and I guess neither have the coaches).

Can I ask the MTSU guys a question that is related to a hot topic on the ODU boards? When Kermit didn't win 20 games or take MTSU to any postseason in his first seven seasons, were the fans calling on him to be canned? How much of a grace period should the fans give Jones?
