Former Ole Miss players say OM coaches lied to them about NCAA violations
The stories coaches tell in recruiting...

... and isn't this kind of stuff the reason why Houston Nutt went after Hugh Freeze in the first place?

http://www.espn.com/college-football/sto...ew-schools

Quote:Six former Ole Miss football players who transferred to other schools after the Rebels were hit with additional NCAA penalties plan to build their appeals for immediate eligibility around text messages they say were sent to recruits to downplay the severity of the NCAA investigation into the program.

According to screenshots of text messages exchanged by recruits who signed with the Rebels in 2016, the players were allegedly told that the NCAA violations involving the Ole Miss football program occurred before Hugh Freeze was hired as head coach in 2012.
Quote:Six former Ole Miss players -- quarterback Shea Patterson (Michigan), safety Deontay Anderson (Houston), linebacker Jarrion Street (UAB), offensive tackle Jack DeFoor (Georgia Tech) and receivers Tre Nixon (Central Florida) and Van Jefferson (Florida) -- have appealed to the NCAA for immediate eligibility at their new schools. Without waivers, they'll have to sit out the upcoming season under NCAA rules.

Hugh Freeze is a louse.

And generally speaking, when a player transfers out of a hardship situation, they should be immediately eligible anyway.

I agree with ATU completely. Freeze ran one of the most overtly corrupt systems the SEC has seen in decades. It was over the top fraught with problems from his first recruiting class forward. And you are absolutely correct this is why Nutt put the screws to them! Kudos for Houston!

Ole Mi$$. Who would have thought Freeze was cheating? Oh, yeah - pretty much everyone outside of their own fans... Can't improve recruiting that much, that fast without being noticed.

Mark, if you will remember his first big recruiting class took U-tube shots of being with women and waiving hands filled with Benjamins for the camera. You have to be a totally willing and complicitous dupe of an Ole Miss fan to realize he signed a top class of recruits who are pictured waiving fists filled with $100's and not make the psychic connection of "Holy Crap! We must be cheatin'".

Yes, I remember... ACCfootballrx: Rx - Rebel Recruiting Strategy. Main stream media was patting Freeze on the back; I was always suspicious (but I didn't go so far as to say they DEFINITELY cheated).

I remember that class being so laughably and obviously dirty that it's almost in a class by itself. The only thing comparable I can recall was a Butch Davis class at UNC, when several five star recruits flipped at the last minute from programs like Notre Dame. That class blew up before they could use all their eligibility, so maybe that was even worse than Freeze's cheating. Both were breathtaking.

Call it old man intuition if you would like, but we called it common sense in my generation. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it's a duck. Top recruiting class ..... hand fulls of cash.....it's cheating. At that point I don't need to see what the NCAA calls it, all I have to do is wait to see how long it takes them to show up, unless of course the school involved is the one at Chapel Hill. Then the adage is if it looks like a fix, and officials talk like it is a fix, then it's a fix. And the aftermath claims of innocence all along falls under another of our old adages, "Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining!"
