I was not all that enthused to go a couple years ago, but we had a great time. Disney World, Universal, SeaWorld, etc. But only go if you can walk for miles daily. About 10 miles daily is what we averaged.
I forgot to mention the Florida Keys. If you just enjoy slowing down to a crawl. Fantastic food, fantastic fishing, incredible sunsets, and night life is way cool. But sadly it can be fairly expensive now.
Best time to hit the Keys is sept/ oct. That's their slow season. We stayed 5 nights on Duval for around $1300. There's a few bars and restaurants that close for "vacation" around that time, but its not nearly as expensive as summer or Christmas/ NYE.
It also happens to be hurricane season.
True, but the Keys very seldom take a direct hit. Last year being more the exception than the rule

That's NOT when you want to be there.

Good suggestions. I’ve been to Charleston many times, but not Virginia.
Based yourself in Charlottesville, VA. Take a day to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, and at least one more to go to Richmond. Then drive to the Shenandoah Valley and stay a few days.
Hearty endorsement on the Shenandoah Valley, particularly in the fall.

Denver and the surrounding area is gorgeous. Pikes Pike was a huge thrill, especially given I have an irrational fear of heights. I thought gravity was going to suck me out into the void.
